Since my work these days involves cross platform coding on Mac OSX, Linux and Windows, and having a MacBook Pro as the main development machine, I thought it could be convenient to have the three operating systems installed on a triple boot configuration. Running Linux and Windows inside OSX with a Virtual Machine could be an alternative solution, but doing opengl development and testing in the VM might be tricky (although Parallels VM seems ok, for games at least). I eventually decided to take the route of three separate installs (Ubuntu Linux 10.04, OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and Windows 7 Ultimate) on the same machine. After gathering some information online and working through the required installation steps of each system, I eventually got everything working quite well.

GSVideo 0.7 49 comments
After more than one year in the works, the version 0.6 of GSVideo finally comes out as… 0.7! (I felt that naming the final package as 0.6 after a string of things such as 0.6-pre0, pre1, pre2, pre3, pre4 and pre5 lacked a certain sense of novelty :-) ). In any case, this release has been possible by the contributions of many users and developers, who suggested numerous improvements and pointed out bugs and errors. The package is now split according to the OS platform, click on the following links to grab the version for Linux, Mac (Snow Leopard only , sorry Leopard version still not ready) and Windows.

Fresh releases of GSVideo and GLGraphics 31 comments
After taking some time off from gsvideo and glgraphics (in order to finish my MFA project at UCLA), finally had the chance to go back to coding and prepare new releases of both libraries (glgraphics 0.9.1 and gsvideo 0.6-pre0).
I’d say these both releases are more in-progress snapshots than finished versions, fact accentuated in gsvideo by calling it a “pre” release (expect more of these to come in the near future :-))

New release of GSVideo: 20080911 68 comments
Yesterday I finished a new, “preview”, release of GSVideo (this is the reason for the numbering scheme being just the release date). One of the main novelties here is the availability of a simplified and up-to-date GStreamer installer for Windows, which hopefully will make easier the process of using GSVideo on the Windows platform. The download link is below:
which includes the GSVideo binaries, source and also the GStreamer installers.

The GStreamer adventure part I: creating a Windows installer 68 comments
Update (February 11, 2009): The work originally presented in this post evolved into the WinBuilds project, maintained by Andoni Morales and myself. For more information check out the wiki, where you can download the latest gstreamer installers for windows, as well as access the help forum and register to the mailing list.
One main limitation when trying to use the GSVideo library for processing on windows was the relatively difficult task of installing GStreamer on a windows machine. Besides, the latest “official” installation packages for windows haven’t been updated for some time, while GStreamer code has been making continuous progress during the last months.
