Literacy Builds Futures

Only about 1 in 3 fourth graders in Vermont and New Hampshire reads at a proficient level.

For children in under-resourced communities, the gap is even wider. Early reading struggles can limit future opportunities.

All children deserve experiences and resources that build lifelong positive associations with reading and writing.

When kids enjoy reading, they read more. When they read more, their skills grow. Those skills open doors to brighter futures.

Access and Opportunity

The Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) is committed to providing children and families with equitable access to high-quality literacy resources.

Through our eight unique grant programs, we partner with schools, libraries, community organizations and correctional facilities to offer fun and interactive programming that promotes curiosity and enthusiasm around reading and writing for kids aged 0 to 12.

Our Community Impact

We don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach. Instead, we tailor our programming to the needs of the children and communities we serve across New Hampshire and Vermont.

We start by listening. Understanding each partner’s goals and challenges helps us deliver support and strategies for building a stronger culture of literacy.

Our local, responsive approach ensures that children and families experience literacy in ways that reflect their communities, while also connecting them to new ideas, broader perspectives, and one another. A shared reading culture builds belonging, resilience and community pride.

When communities engage around literacy, everyone benefits.
