Trends Shaping the Near Future…brought to you by JWT Intelligence

This morning I was doing some research on JWT‘s homepage about career opportunities. The site is filled with interesting and engaging content from employee twitter feeds, client’s Facebook updates, video and industry news. However, the site is extremely hard to navigate, with content bubbles and images popping up all over the place. While looking for the careers section, I stumbled into an interesting video provided by JWT Intelligence.

What trends will shape the near future?

What trends will influence advertising in the near future?

Here’s what I got from the video…

1. Navigating the new normal: More brands are making their products and services more accessible. This means consumers are engaging with the brand like never before.

2. Live a little: Consumers are growing tired of worrying about the economy and are looking to indulge and escape from today’s pressures, without spending a lot.

3. Generation GO: The lost generation is becoming more entrepreneurial due to a tough economy. This means we are getting more creative and creating jobs for ourselves.

4. The rise of shared value: Businesses are aiming to become more global, but not just for the purpose of expanding or growing revenues. They want operations to be synergistic.

5. Food as the new eco-issue: Consumers are becoming more aware of what they are eating. Therefore, food companies are putting more time and research into improving their products.

6. Marriage optional: Women are shifting their opinions about the “get married and live happily ever after” model. More women are staying single and focusing on their careers before thinking of tying the knot.

7. Re-engineering randomness: Consumers are seeking ways to show their individuality and curiosity.

8. Screened interactions: Technology will operate on flat surfaces (tablets, smart phones, etc.) allowing consumers to interact with brands, ads, products and services with their hands.

9. Celebrating aging: People are living longer, so attitudes about growing old are changing. The older generations have all the time and money to enjoy themselves and they are taking advantage of this time.

10.Objectifying objects: As everything becomes more digitized, people will start to desire physical objects they can touch and hold.

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs oh my!

Upswing in the jobs market

J-O-B-S

Is it just me? Or, is everyone talking about jobs? Jobs will definitely be the most important topic during this year’s election and mostly likely a tagline used in both parties campaigns. Also, as manufacturing costs overseas rise, the U.S. economy will be experience an “insourcing” of these industries, creating millions of jobs…Here’s an uplifting article about the U.S. economy and jobs market I found in this mornings Business Week.

As graduation quickly approaches, I have obviously been doing a ton of research on the “jobs” topic. Fortunately, I am finding myself in a great position to get hired. Five years ago I made a crucial decision to drop out of Texas A&M University and move to NYC. I was unsure about “what I wanted to do when I grew up” and needed to do some soul searching. BEST DECISION I EVER MADE. As you know, the U.S. economy feel into a recession shortly after my move. I would have been graduating and looking for a job during the height of the unemployment rate…I, of course, did not forsee this, but am happy it worked in my favor. After spending the past 3 1/2 years at FIT and working numerous internships, I finally feel prepared to move into the workforce. And thankfully, it looks like the jobs market thinks so too.
