CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROJECTS

2026 Projects – City of Defiance

The City of Defiance is making significant infrastructure investments throughout 2026, advancing multiple capital improvement projects to enhance safety, connectivity, and the quality of life for residents. These projects are being completed in partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), reflecting a strong collaboration to improve transportation systems across the community while supporting future growth and development.

Several major roadway and corridor improvements are underway or in development. The Ralston Avenue Roundabouts Project will introduce two single-lane roundabouts at Anthony Wayne Boulevard and Latchaw Drive, improving traffic flow and reducing crashes along this key route. Similarly, Phase 2 of the Ottawa Avenue Corridor Improvements will reconstruct a portion of Ottawa Avenue while adding sidewalks, curbs, drainage upgrades, and a multi-use path to better connect neighborhoods, schools, parks, and local businesses.

Pedestrian accessibility remains a strong focus in 2026. New sidewalks are being constructed along Ayersville Avenue between Logan Street and Dohoney Road, with completion expected by June. In addition, the East 2nd Street Sidewalk Extension project is currently in the design phase and will expand pedestrian infrastructure from Greenhouse Avenue to Florence Avenue, with construction anticipated in 2027. Together, these projects will close gaps in the sidewalk network and improve walkability across the community.

The City will also continue its annual Street Improvements & Resurfacing Program, with work scheduled on Hopkins Street between Douglas Street and Greenhouse Avenue. This program plays a vital role in preserving roadway conditions, improving safety, and extending the lifespan of existing infrastructure.

Collectively, these investments represent millions of dollars in improvements across Defiance. From roadway reconstruction and roundabouts to sidewalks and resurfacing, each project plays an important role in creating a safer, more efficient, and more connected transportation network. While construction may bring temporary inconveniences such as detours and traffic changes, these upgrades are all part of building a stronger, more vibrant, and accessible community for years to come. We sincerely thank our residents for their patience, support, and understanding as we work to improve the City of Defiance.
