Okay, so not completely true. I'm maybe...70% FO at this point? I might lock personal posts or embarrassingly fannish ones, depending on my mood. But if you comment I'll almost definitely friend you back as long as we have something in common. New friends are way cool. And so are pigeons--no seriously, I LOVE pigeons. ♥ /random
Really, I'm completely flattered when people ask to be my friend.
However, if I know you in real life, I probably won't add you. (And, uh, please don't read my journal?) It's nothing personal, I just like to remain somewhat anonymous online.
Also it's so, so okay to comment on my journal even if we're not friends. Talking is fun.

Just realized I only ever posted my resolutions for this year on tumblr, but I like having a record of them on LJ. Soooo gonna copy/paste those now.
- Ten chin-ups: Right now I can do about three, so I wanna improve.
- Three pull-ups: I can currently do zero pull ups. :(
- Write something: I guess this could refer to anything, but I would love for this to be the year that I finally finish and post some fic. (I currently have about 8000 words of a story, which is farther than I've ever gotten before. :D?)
- Coach my mom to sing: Ha, this is on here because my mom asked me to write it down. Not that I'm an amazing singer, but I had a few years of voice lessons in high school, so I could maybe give her some tips.
- Paint two paintings: I haven't done a lot of painting in my life, but it's fun to play around with, and I should do it more often.
- Fix laptop wireless issue: Just a dumb problem with my new laptop that I need to get fixed before my warranty runs out.
- Work on Galois Theory: A math subject that my husband has been wanting me to learn forever. I put in my wedding vows that I'd let him teach me it, so I'd better follow through. ;)
- Learn more audio recording on computer: I write and record a song for my mom every Christmas, and it would probably be a lot simpler/less stressful to do on my computer instead of on the four track tape recorder I've been using for years, so I wanna learn more about that process.
- Take a road trip without a destination: Always a good time.
- Use certificates: A carry-over resolution from last year. I have gift certificates for a glass class and a swing dancing place that I very much want to use but never seem to get around to doing.
- Read more of the books that I own: Self explanatory!
- See at least 15 movies in theaters: Also self explanatory!

Ahhh, I must make an entry today if I want to stick to my at-least-one-post-per-calendar-month rule! So here I am! Posting! At the end of June! With exclamation points! !!!
Things have been craaazy this last month or so with wedding preparations. I'm getting married in less than two weeks now, which is pretty strange, but I'm definitely excited. We don't have any sort of theme except silliness and fun, so we've been frantically making games and art and activities in these last couple of weeks. If we can pull everything off, I think it's going to be pretty great. I've also had to practice putting on makeup on a semi-regular basis, as that is not a thing I normally do, so that's been fun. Also, wow, makeup is way expensive! Who knew? ;)
Two days after the wedding, we're going on a honeymoon to Costa Rica, which is also super exciting. I've never been to any country other than the US and Canada, so this should be quite an adventure. There's still some planning to do surrounding that, as well, but we're slowly getting everything sorted. And then we get to see cool animals and plants! And swim and hike and do other awesome things!
Hmm, what else? This wedding is kind of dominating everything at the moment, so it's difficult to recall what else is happening in life. Fandom-wise, my One Direction infatuation has not yet waned. I am just so happy to once again be interested in a fandom with lots of amazing fic to read all the time. I had spent a few years mostly mostly floating in fandom limbo - flirting with a few here and there, but never attaching myself fully to anything - so it was about time I get invested in something again. Even if it's something I'm still embarrassed to admit to liking in most circles, heh.
Alright, I must return to wedding prep things now. By the next time I write here, I will probably be married. Yowza!

Everyone should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on obviously).

In no particular order:
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
The Graduate
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Fight Club
Velvet Goldmine
The Producers (old version)
The Dreamers
The Shining
The 5 Obstructions
The 40-Year-Old Virgin
(I feel like I'm missing something really important? These were pretty much the first ones that came to mind, though).

So here, super late and copied/slightly edited from tumblr, are my resolutions for 2014:
- Do 50 Push Ups [I've been doing push ups every day for the past...2 months? My record is
3338, so I think I can make it to 50 by the end of the year] - Get Married [yeah...this one's a freebie :D]
- Do 15 Handstand Twirls [I can currently do
1113] - Finish Christmas Song for my Mom [every year since I was 4, I've written a song for my mom for Christmas. I didn't get a chance to finish it this year, so she got an IOU, which I hope to turn into a real song soon]
- Watch More Movies [self explanatory]
- Use Certificates [I have one for a dance class and one for a glass class, both of which I'm excited to do, but have been procrastinating on for some reason]
- Write Something [by which I mean write fic, but didn't want to say that while making resolutions in front of my family. I've never posted fic before, and I'm hoping this will be the year I finally do it - I have about 3000 words of something now that I will try to actually finish and not chicken out on putting it up. eep!]
- Pierce Ear [...I just want another ear piercing]
- Write Song with TA Boy [He's been wanting to write a song together for a while, and I think it'll be fun]
- Crochet Something [which also involves learning how to crochet, as I only know how to knit]
- Ponder Grad School [low pressure resolution...just need to start thinking more about if I might want to go]
- Do Some Art That Isn't A Gift [I wanna do something for myself]
- Swim In 10 Different Places [could be different bodies of water, or pools, or whatever]
- Learn How To Make Kimchi, Sauerkraut, or Pickles [mmm, sour good times]

Oh shit, I've gone more than a month without posting again. :( I've finally transitioned into checking tumblr more often than LJ, which makes me rather sad, but I suppose that's just the way things go.
I'm not quite sure what to write about, so I'm just gonna stream of consciousness for a lil bit.
Yesterday was lovely. On the way to my bus stop, there's an area being cleared of brush by a bunch of goats, so I got a nice view of them on my walk and they were CUTE CUTE CUTE. And then on the way home from class, my teacher took the same bus as me, which would normally be stressful because ahhh people, but she was super sweet and we had an actual conversation, and it was pretty nice! She also said something that implied that I am a good student, which made me feel nice. Yaaay having non-stressful interactions with people I don't know that well!
On the flip side, I spent much of today angsting over making a hair appointment. /o\ Everything about getting my hair cut makes me anxious: calling to get an appointment, making/not making small talk while it's being cut, giving/not giving feedback, etc. This is why I usually cut my own hair, heh. But self haircuts are often inconsistent, and I want to experiment with my hair before next summer so I can make decisions about what length/style I'd like to have at my wedding. I'm planning to get it short tomorrow so I'll have enough time to grow it out if I don't like it. Hopefully it turns out okay/I'm not too awkward! ;)
A few other cool things:
Aaaand that's it! I have a bunch of lifey pictures from the last couple of years that I want to post here eventually, so maybe I'll do that someday.
ps: I am no longer willing to pay for extra user pics, but wow do I miss all my icons.

- I am now at 48 out of the 50 cats that I need to pet for my New Year's resolution. (Almost there!)
- I did 15 push ups today! I think that's the most I've ever done at once!
- For Halloween, if all works out, TA Boy is gonna be Marceline (from Adventure Time), and I'll be Marshall Lee. I don't even know if we're gonna go anywhere or do anything, but should be fun anyway.

Quick post because I just realized that I hadn't updated at all during August and I don't want this to be the first month since I got LJ without a post!
I'm going camping tomorrow for perhaps a week (possibly shorter - we are gonna play it by ear), so I won't be reachable during that time.
Love to you all! One day I will make an actual entry again. <3
Ahhhh I have to wake up in 2 hours. /o\

Oh em gee, I nearly went all of April without posting. That's no good. :/
Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday yesterday! It was a really nice birthday. TA Boy and I went to the park that's across the street from the apartment I lived in until I was 6. We walked around the neighborhood and climbed the holly tree that I used to climb all the time as a child. It was nostalgic good times. Then we ate the delicious dinner that my dad cooked - pot pie, beets, and salad. Mmmmm.
My parents got me an early birthday present a few weeks ago (a bike!) and TA Boy got me a Kindle, which I was not at all expecting and is pretty awesome. I am excited to load it up with things to read. (Maybe it will help me get back into reading fic, which I miss quite a bit).
And the day ended with Once More With Feeling, as that just happened to be where TA Boy and I are in our Buffy/Angel watching. So that was a pretty awesome ending to a pretty awesome birthday. :)

Other things that have happened since I last posted:
- Accordion Babes Revue (with special Guest Jason Webley): It was a night of quirky, entertaining accordion music performed by a gorgeous and charismatic group of women (and Jason Webley) who went on a short West Coast tour. So much fun!!!
- RuPaul's Drag Race episode watch with Jinkx Monsoon: Also tons of fun! The restaurant/bar where Jinkx performs holds weekly viewings of Drag Race, which Jinkx sometimes hosts when she's not traveling elsewhere. TA Boy and I had been meaning to go all season, but finally got around to it for the "Super Troopers" episode, and it was so cool to hear Jinkx's behind-the-scenes commentary about the experience. She's such a class act.
- I watched the entirety of "Girls". I'm still not totally sure how I feel about the show, but it definitely hooked me in enough to watch lots of episodes back to back. While there's plenty I don't have in common with any of the characters, there was still a lot that I could relate to. It was super cringy sometimes, but I'm glad that I saw it.
- My classes have been awesome this quarter so far! Which is refreshing after being so frustrated last quarter. \o/
Awesome things that are happening soon:
- Mindless Self Indulgence tomorrow!!! (Though I'm a bad fan and haven't listened to their new album yet).
- Simon Amstell next weekend!!!

I had a very nice day picking out bridesmaid's dresses with
bobbyshmoe, (we finally found one!), taking a walk on a beautiful day, starting S5 of Buffy with TA Boy, and eating some tasty food.
I'm very sad the evening had to end with MCR's break-up announcement. I didn't think I was going to cry for about 5 seconds after reading it, but I was quickly proved wrong. I'm lucky that TA Boy was here to hold me and pet my hair and not judge me for crying about a band. My Chemical Romance means a lot to me, and while I wish them all amazing things, and look forward to whatever they choose to do in the future, I will be mourning this ending for a while.
Stupid little things are making me sad.Like, in the last few months, I've nearly bought the "Look Alive, Sunshine" shirt from their website a bunch of times, but never got around to it, and now they no longer have it listed. (ETA: That problem was solved due to the magic of ebay! \o/) I also wish that the last time I saw them they had been headlining.
It will be okay. They gave me so many wonderful experiences and memories and I will forever be grateful. But for now, I am sad.

Have you ever worked really hard on something out of spite? That's pretty much how I approached the last project for my Web Design class. I think the assignment (as given) was a giant waste of class time, and I wanted to show my teachers that there was a LOT more we could have learned from it. So I decided to make the best of the assignment, and provide as many learning opportunities as I could for myself in building the website that they wanted. I would bet money that my work on this particular project was at least twice as good as any other student's. (Which isn't to say that they couldn't have done what I did, but I spent a damn long time fiddling with little bits of code to get it to do things that were definitely not required of us, and I did not get the sense that anyone else put extra work into it). (And okay maybe not twice as good as everyone's, but at least some people's. ;D)
Anyway, I submitted it tonight, along with a few pleasantly worded comments about some of the extra work I had done. I didn't mention everything, but hopefully they'll notice.
It's kind of too bad that this thing I spent so much time on is just a crappy website with an ugly layout (that I didn't design - my teacher did). All the cool stuff is under the hood, so the website itself wouldn't be impressive to anyone. (And by "cool stuff", I mean "things that are not actually that cool, but they weren't taught in class and I had to figure them out on my own so I am proud of myself okay!??1") I just have this urge to brag about it. And I am not usually a bragger! I blame my spiteful feelings toward the class. Yes.
...and now I feel silly and pompous. Sorry!
Oh oh also! Fandom March Madness nominations opened today! \o/

Just started watching Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 (what is the standard way to write that? B? Bitch? B----?) and oh em gee it is kind of amazing. I'm two episodes into S2 and already very sad that it was canceled. And very much hoping that the unaired episodes will eventually air or be released on DVD. It's vaguely 2 Broke Girls-ish in premise, but like. Way, way more interesting and better (in my opinion).
Krysten Ritter is hilarious, James Van Der Beek playing James Van Der Beek is genius, and Dreama Walker makes what could potentially be a boring character into a really entertaining one! as;dlfkjalskdfj so good.
Um. I should probably go do my homework now. But I really wanna watch more. Life's hard, yo.

- Whew! Just had to use AAA for the first time! (No biggie - TA Boy got a flat just as we were parking somewhere to meet friends, and we soon discovered the spare also had a hole in it /o\). Good to know how that process goes, though. (And I'm glad I was wearing warmish clothes!)
- Oh my, this is my first time posting from the new update page. I don't think I'll be the hugest fan (I'm especially not fond of the lack of mood theme icon preview), but I'm less worried about this than I am by the new friends page. I would very much wish to opt out of that. *sigh*
- I've just started watching S4 of Buffy and S1 of Angel with TA Boy. I was very good and let him choose whether he wanted to watch them concurrently or not instead of forcing it upon him, but he decided to take that plunge. I'm excited. I haven't watched the shows together like that since the first time I saw them about 8 years ago. I'm also fairly certain that there are a couple of episodes in Buffy S4 that I've only seen once, so it'll be good to do a proper watch through.
- I registered for 2 classes next quarter - JavaScript and a Databases class. I think they should be good. This quarter's been pretty silly, but I don't have the time to go into it now. Perhaps in another entry.
- I owe a few people emails and comments, which I plan to get to tomorrow, so hopefully you'll hear from me soon if you're one of those people.

I realize that in my last entry I talked about updating more and then...didn't. There were actually a lot of things I almost posted about (wow a lot happened both in life and in fandom), but this time I have an actual reason for not doing so. I had to hold off because I was at 999 posts, and I wanted to put something special up for my 1,000th entry! So this is my 1,000th entry! \o/
I thought I would reach this benchmark about three years ago, but then I got busier in RL and LJ started dying, and well...it took a lot longer. But my 1,000th post is finally here!
I've been wanting to make a "significant obsessions" post for quite a while, so I figured this would be a good opportunity. I'm always fascinated by stories about how people came to love or be obsessed with x,y,z and how one thing progressed to another. So I complied a list of some of the more important loves and obsessions I've had throughout my life, each with a picture and a paragraph about why they were/are important. There are 55, so I don't expect people to read through them all, but it was very fun for me to take a trip down memory lane and navel gaze a bit.
( Significant Obsessions/Passions/Etc of My LifeCollapse )
Wow, kudos if you actually read any of that. I do enjoy me some self indulgent ramblings. :) Mostly I am glad to have this finished so I can make posts again if and when the mood strikes.
I love you, flist! Thanks for nearly 7 years of goodness. ♥

Looking through old LJ entries because I can't get to sleep.
I've never been good at keeping paper journals, and I miss having a better record of my life. I think I need to stop worrying about whether whatever I have to say will be entertaining or not, and just write for my own sake. I haven't been in a proper fandom for a while now, so it's perfectly normal to make mostly life-focused posts. I need to remember that. It's also okay to make short posts of barely any substance if the mood strikes. I used to do that a lot, and it was fun.
So there.
Hopefully I can fall asleep now. Perhaps posting was the key? *crosses fingers* *is not excited to wake up for class in 4&1/2 hours* *fondly remembers the days when she could run on very little sleep without feeling terrible* *uses more asterisks*

Hopefully I can fall asleep now. Perhaps posting was the key? *crosses fingers* *is not excited to wake up for class in 4&1/2 hours* *fondly remembers the days when she could run on very little sleep without feeling terrible* *uses more asterisks*

2013 Resolutions

I hope you all had a lovely New Year's Eve and New Year's Day! I certainly did. :D
On December 31st, I: made cinnamon roll dough for the next morning, hastily cut TA Boy's hair and then my own hair (his because he wanted a haircut, mine because I had a resolution to cut my hair in 2012 and hadn't yet done so), picked up
murgatrude, and then went to a white elephant/hang-out-and-watch-fireworks gathering with her, TA Boy, and some of his friends. Much fun was had!
On January 1st, my family had some people over (as we always do) to participate in New Year's luck traditions and to make resolutions. We had black eyed peas with a dime hidden in one of the bowls (my mom got it this year), ate collard greens and Japanese noodles, and burned pine nuts. In theory these are all luck traditions from various places, though my dad has researched the pine nut thing and can't figure out if it's a real tradition or just something his brother's ex wife did. Anyway, it's mostly an excuse to be silly and have fun with friends. (We also ate the cinnamon rolls that I had made, which was super tasty, but not for any particular purpose). After those traditions, we read out the resolutions from the previous year to see how well (or badly) we all did and then make new ones.
My 2013 resolutions are:
And that's it! Whew, that was a lot of resolutions. Chances are I will not follow through with most of them, but that's okay. I mostly just make them for fun.

My 2013 resolutions are:
- Bird art - I want to make some art pieces involving various common birds (or "city birds", if you will ;D) and perhaps set up a way to sell them. The print I did for the holiday cards I sent out this year (a chickadee) could be included, and I would like to make more prints, and perhaps some paintings and sculptures. I thought it'd be fun to play around with a theme.
- Knit a non-scarf - I'd love to knit another pair of socks (since I've only made one), but really any knitting project that isn't a scarf would be acceptable.
- Make website for myself - So far the (small number of) websites I've worked on have been for other people, so I'd like to make one for myself. Maybe one where I could put up some of the "bird art" from my first resolution. :)
- Watch either The X-Files, Six Feet Under, or The West Wing - I've had this resolution before, but hopefully I'll actually do it this year.
- Treat lower back nicely - Hopefully this will mean doing things to improve my lower back pain, but I will settle for not doing things that injure it.
- Use dance certificate - Two years ago, my parents gave me and TA Boy a gift card to go swing dancing and we haven't used it yet, even though we talk about it all the time.
- Go somewhere I've never been - Another one I had last year and failed at. It doesn't have to be anywhere fancy - just a place I've never visited before.
- Read either Gödel, Escher Bach or Lord of the Rings - I've read bits of both and need to actually finish them. (I know, I'm a horrible person who's a huge fan of the LotR movies but hasn't read the books. *hides in shame*)
- Make steps towards improving closet - My closet is a mess and needs to be cleaned! I have been avoiding it because I think there's some very old cat pee somewhere in there that I don't want to deal with! /o\
- Stand up on "log" without help more consistently - In the summer, I go log rolling with TA Boy, and I wanna get better.
- Work towards doing walkovers - I used to be able to do them both forwards and backwards, but every time I've tried recently, I mess up my back. So mostly I need to work on that "treat my lower back nicely" resolution, and perhaps this one will follow.
- Pet at least 50 different cats - 'Cause that sounds fun, right? :DDD
And that's it! Whew, that was a lot of resolutions. Chances are I will not follow through with most of them, but that's okay. I mostly just make them for fun.

TV meme stolen from
ashooles:
Which TV shows did you start watching in 2012?
Hmm, let's see. The Mindy Project, Elementary (though I'm a few eps behind), Game of Thrones, Neon Genesis: Evangelion, Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy, Teen Wolf, Daria, Sherlock, Modern Family.... um there might be more that I can't remember.
Which TV shows did you let go of in 2012?
2 Broke Girls. I don't really "let go" of shows that often (usually I just forget about them for a while but still have the intention to finish at some point), but despite Kat Dennings' awesome, I couldn't get into that one.
Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2012? Why?
I can't think of anything I felt that strongly about. I saw a few episodes of Suburgatory and would like to see more. And I perpetually intend to watch The West Wing, Six Feet Under, and The X-Files, but never seem to get around to it.
Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2013?
Perhaps The West Wing, Six Feet Under, or The X-Files? ;) Also TTGL. And Breaking Bad. And maybe Caprica. Oh and when's the S.H.I.E.L.D. show coming out again? 2013 or 2014?
Which TV show impressed you least in 2012?
Like I said, I couldn't really get into 2 Broke Girls, so I'd have to go with that one. Ringer was also super ridiculous, but in a hilarious way, so it didn't bother me too much. And it got cancelled anyway, so...
Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2013 unless things significantly improve?
Unpopular opinion: I haven't gotten overly invested in Elementary yet. It's totally decent, but it just hasn't grabbed me yet for some reason. So, we'll see.
Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Most of the shows that I watch. Heh. I stopped actively caring about Supernatural many years ago, but I still watch. And I never actually liked Glee to begin with, and yet I've stayed with it. I just like to stick around and see what happens, even if I am annoyed. I rarely dump shows, and when I do, they're usually comedies.
(Adding a question because I want to)
Which shows in 2012 did everyone else love but you felt 'meh' about?
More unpopular opinions: Game of Thrones and Teen Wolf. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both and will continue watching them, but neither stood out as omg amazing to me the way they seem to for most people.
(And adding one more)
Which shows that you saw this year were your favorites?
My favorites were (in no particular order and often for very different reasons): Parks and Recreation, The Vampire Diaries, Adventure Time, Modern Family, Sherlock, Hart of Dixie, Daria, and Death Note.

Things I've almost made posts about recently: A List
- PAUL FREAKING MCCARTNEY. My parents, TA Boy, and I drove up to Vancouver BC the Sunday after Thanksgiving to see him play and it was completely amazing. I'll admit that I've been rather privileged with concerts and am used to being way up front (I loves me my general admission), but we just weren't going to spend $300+ per ticket to make that happen so we were pretty far back. I spent the first song or two feeling a bit jealous of everyone near the front, but the wonderfulness of it all soon overshadowed any stupid entitlement I was feeling. You guys, I cannot understand how he puts on such a powerful (and long omg) set at age 70. Like, far younger performers normally can't play for three hours with that energy level. What is this wizardry??? ♥
- Classes for this quarter are almost over! I just have one presentation tomorrow and then I'm all done. I ended up loving my html class (and am signed up for the continuation of it in Winter quarter), but my photoshop class was kinda meh due to the teacher being not terrific. :/ I still got something out of it, but it could've been a lot better.
- MCR songs! So far my favorite single is Boy Division, followed closely by Ambulance. I seem to like Tomorrow's Money less and Gun. more than most people do, based on the reactions I've seen.
- Relatedly: Do we know the story behind the Zero Zero by DannyTheStreet loveliness? I am not up with my internet stocking and therefore know nothing except that Gerard posted it, clearly sang it, and that I love it. Have there been other posted-to-twitter-off-the-cuff-song-type-t
hings that I've missed? - I...still really love Hart of Dixie. I know no one cares, and I'm pretty embarrassed about it, and yet feel compelled to tell you all. So there. :p
- I'm gonna be making my holiday cards soon, but there's still time to fill out this poll if you want one. If you're on my flist, I would love to send you a card. Yes, you. :)
- Speaking of mail, this fandom penpal thing looks awesome!
