Since its founding in 1965 the Ciompi Quartet of Duke University has developed a reputation for interpretive intelligence, musical sophistication and a warm, unified sound that allows each player’s individual voice to emerge.

Ciompi History

Their artistry has impressed audiences and critics across five continents, weaving musical threads of the past and present into dynamic performances designed to transform and elevate the human experience. Driven by their determination to break new ground, Ciompi has built an extensive catalog of commissions, many of which have been recorded as part of their extensive recording catalog. 

The Ciompi Quartet’s members are all Professors of the Practice of Music at Duke University’s Department of Music, where they lead the string studios, the chamber music program and perform across campus in traditional and non-traditional venues.
