ok Im exaggerating its just floods.
Continuing the trend we are all fine here, we being me, Nikita and Miles (who is at the moment down the coast working)
we're in no danger of flooding, our only problem at the moment is that I cant get to work, the highway is closed in three places and trying to get around it all is just not possible.
I managed to get there on Monday but that was it, I applied for emergency income loss relief via centerlink but Im not sure if I will get anything thru them or when.
My family is doing ok as well, tho my parents dont have power and arent expected to get any till friday.
If anyone wants to help out go here http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html

Since it was Rubah's last day in Qld I asked him if he would like to come geocaching with me along the coast, since Drake piked on me I asked Koneko if he would like to come.
We set off nice and early, peak hour traffic was just clearing away so we got a decent run down to the Spit. Ive added the links to geocaching.com so you can have a look at them there if you wish :) some may not be viewable to non members. Our first stop
Seaway
we were able to drive within 350 meters of GZ (ground zero), we all managed to fill our shoes up with sand here, had a little trouble finding this one, the clue said "under a Branch" many trees and branches here as well as a lot of rubbish. I forgot to bring any rubbish bags so we had to leave it all. Rubah finally found this one.
Federation
Added more sand to our shoes with this one, easy to find due to a suspiciously unnatural arrangement of sticks on top of a dune.
Was at this point we remembered we were meeting up with Catprog so we drove back to our original spot to wait, turns out he was waiting in another area and since we didn't have any contacts we had to move on.
Federation Park
This one was in a little park in Broadbeach, parking was bad, we accidentally stole someone spot and I decided to be nice and let them have it back, we ended up parking a little further down the road and walked back.
This cache was behind the park entrance way, under a tangle of vines, we sent koneko in to get it
The Green, The Gold and The Blue
since this was in walking distance from our parking spot we didn't need to move the car again
it was a micro painted the same grey as the sculpture, and if you knew what you were looking for, in plain sight. I filled out the log while Rubah and Koneko watched the girls playing beach volleyball.
CaleD is going nuts at nobbys
This one was down the road from my Grandmas old house, an easy find but a little tricky to get out of its hiding spot, Rubah finally managed it.
The log was full on this one and people had been adding scraps of paper to sign it, I managed to squeeze my name into a spot. didn't have any logs in my kit small enough to leave here (film canister) so I added a maintenance log when I logged it (cache is now offline till owner comes back from holidays)
Bravo Hotel
Located in Burleigh heads national park, a really nice walk with some great views I imagine when the whales are coming up the coast that it is a great spot to watch them from.
This cache is one of the oldest in Queensland and was placed in 2001, its been very well maintained with the earliest logs laminated and put back in for others to read, all the full log books are there as well and makes for some interesting reading. I left a travel bug in this one
Pirate Treasure
Not far from the Currumbin Bird sanctuary
a fairly new playground is here now, has a huge pirate ship and pirate cave in it, we didn't take any pics of it as the place was SWARMING with kids.
Past 1 by then so we took a break for lunch at a nearby cafe, prices were a little o.O but the burgers were pretty damn good. Took a pic of the possum lookout on top of the pirate ship from the cafe.
Currumbin Rock
Over the river and by the shore, my GPS was playing up when we got here due to batteries going flat, it insisted cache was supposed to be in the middle of the road. we found it in the only spot it could have been a lone tree on a traffic island
Stopped at nearby shopping center for fresh batteries and off to our next find!
Ibis Creek
Again under a tree, they made me scrabble around for this one, meanies
Surf Break Series - Snapper
located near the Tweed lagoon, I thought it was at the memorial so I parked on the farside of it, turned out to be over the hill and far away ;) we decided that we would walk it anyway.
This was a hard to find one, the clue was Kcor (rock spelt backwards) it was no help at all as the entire hillside is boulders piled up, if it was a subtle clue we missed it. we almost gave up on this one as the GPS wouldnt give us a decent fix. Rubah once again found it. the thing was a 12 inch PVC pipe not sure how we missed it, but we were looking for a small container not a huge one
Porpoise Pool
Back to where we parked on our way to next one, took some pics of a very burnt out car that had been dumped there, Kita thinks it might have been a pulsar but it was really hard to tell what it was
This cache was in a tree stump, I almost cut myself in a piece of broken glass, I took that with me to throw away so no one else would get cut
It was nearly four o'clock by then and koneko informed us that he needed to get to a centerlink, we didn't have time to get back home for that so found the nearest one for him, which happened to be in NSW, dropped him off there and texted Ice to find out when they needed him home (they were going out for jagefahs birthday) since they needed him back in an hour, no way were we going to make that so I told koneko Id drop him off at the resturant
Once that was sorted we decided we had enough time for the last cache on my list
Shocking View
A very clever cache, located in a covered picnic table, the cache itself was a small electrial box, pulling off one of the pipes revealed a screwdriver that you then used to remove the casing and get to the log. I love caches like that :)
Home time and the sun had gone down by then so I didn't have to drive into the glare, Dropped Rubah off first at his backpackers, he's off to Melbourne to stay with Pete for the next three weeks (poor guy :P)
And then tracked down the resturant in Bardon to drop off koneko, got him there with ten minutes to spare and everyone was still standing about outside.
Finally get home where I get to sit down for 30 mins before heading off to Southside for some dinner.
All in all a great day we found all 12 of our caches, the weather was great and we got everyone home in time.

Up early this morning so we could get an early start, managed to get everyone up and on the road by 7am ish. Stopped at maccas Banyo for some breakfast and to meet tyresk, we waited for about 30 mins before texting him and moving on. Got a reply letting us know he was still coming he just had to get Moreth moving.
We got into Noosa about 10, it was drizzling on and off on our arrival and didn't look like stopping anytime soon, this is good weather for caching as it keeps the hordes inside (especially handy for a tourist mecca like Noosa) . Set out for the first cache on my list, one called Morgans choice, as it was the furtherest one, we were able to follow the path almost right to this one, except for the two places that it had fallen into the sea! Nice easy find and I was able to drop off a geocoin I picked up at Wynumm and also one of my own coins. On the way out I almost stepped on what we thought was a snake, took a couple of pictures of him and on looking him up at home it turns out we'd found a legless lizard, Burtons snake lizard to give it its proper name.
Back to the next Cache on our list Blue Quand, i'd actually spotted the location for this one on our way to Morgans so it was very easy to find, it was a micro and the log was soggy so I couldnt sign that one.
Then onto Woods Bay, this was located at the old noosa river mouth amongst the rocks, just signed the log for this one and put it back.
After our success we went into Noosa itself for something to eat, we had got there, got food and were sitting down when the rain came pouring down!
Wandered about a bit after the rain stopped while waiting for Tyresk and Moreth, once they arrived we were able to set off on the more challenging part of the trip, this took us into the national park.
first one we were after was called Palm Grove at Noosa, palm grove is the name of a walking track that goes into the bushland there, lots of stranglerfigs and scrub turkeys, got a little off track for this one as the GPS lost signal under the canopy, luckily I had the clues written down and we were able to get on track, This cache is a bit further off the main track then I thought, concealed in the trunk of a huge fallen tree.
didn't take anything from this one but left my Beijing Geocoin.
Stopped at the kiosk for a quick recharge and then tackled the longer walk, it wasn't a hard walk, just long. Th cache itself is on an outcropping off the main path there is no danger in falling off unless you are really clumsy, me and moreth tackled this one while Kita went to have a quick look for the nude beach. Found the cache then had to wait for kita to get back as he was carrying my backpack with all my gear in it.
Left my John Harrison geocoin in this cache.
Started the long walk back to hastings street, jumped in the cars and headed for home
( and now pictures!Collapse )
Was a good day :)

Went out on Monday with Drake and Koneko, after finally getting drake away from WoW and having to endure Oz's hairy arse, we got going.
first on our list was Klaus's Hide, a nice easy one in a park, took a travel bug out of that one, was going to leave one but I couldnt find it!
second was Pines Paradise, another easy walk after a minor setback of going the wrong way and scrambling over a creek, didn't take or leave anything in that one. On our way back we were crossing the bridge when drake says "what the hell is that?" it turned out to be a fairly large (and dead) lungfish we assumed it had been washed down from deeper waters during all the flooding last week

we sent koneko down to it so you could get an idea of its size.
Next on our list was Ginger Meggs, another easy one :) we were having a good day so far
took a tazo out of that one and left a compass.
Kaoshsiung was the next one, it was out sunnybank way and was a small park in a very expensive looking estate, I think if we had of been there to long we would have been chased out for not being rich enough to be there!
we let koneko find this one as he hadnt found any yet. reading thru the log we found an entry by what im gonna assume was a kid about 13-15, I wish I had of take a pic of the entry but basically he came across the cache by accident, read the info, made an entry in the log book and put it back apparently geocaching is "Wicked Rad" lol
we took a deck of cards from that one and left an Alex the Lion
So far we were 4 for 4
Donkeys delight spoiled our winning streak, we just could not find it, reading the logs made it worse as it is "A really easy find and very obvious"
spent around 20 mins before giving up
Our last one for the day was LA Confidental, we couldnt find that one either but after finding a pen and an empty ziplock bag and then noticing the flood signs, we concluded that this one may have been a victim of the recent flooding.
I noted the owner when we got home and he has marked it as disabled till he can check it out
So overall we got 4 out of 6 which I think was pretty good :)

since today was my RDO I decided to head out to Ipswich to find a cache I couldnt find last time I Was out there due to old man mowing lawn and a family showing up.
Had a delay on the highway due to a grass fire, the wind was blowing smoke across the road, police held us up till the wind changed.
Finally found the cache after much getting spiked by aloe vera plants I dunno who thought THAT would be a good idea! dropped off my irish Geo coin, there was supposed to be another coin in there but its been taken and not logged.
There was another one along the road but Id forgotten to write details down and the GPS wanted me to go into someones driveway so I gave that one a miss for now.
Back into Ipswich itself for the next two, the first one was in the Nerima Japanese gardens, its the first time Ive been there and it is a very nice spot to sit in the shade and relax, the cache was fairly easy to find, it was between two large boulders, hardly anyone about so I just sat on one of the boulders to write in the log, rehid it and then down to the wildlife gardens for the next one.
Id been here before with Drake and Macrocelli before I took up geocaching, This one was very easy to find as the hiding place is written in the directions, couldnt write in the log cause it was all soggy. took some pics of the heat exhausted animals before heading back home and a nice cool drink!
Logged my finds and put in a maintence report on the soggy one.

Went out to do some urban geocaching today, chose three that were relatively easy to get to with no hill climbing (my lungs just aren't up to too much exercise atm)
first one was in a small historic churchyard off Wynnum rd, factories all around it so it was lucky that they were able to save it! easy to find due to all the clues on the website, little bit hard to get to as there was a big pile of garden rubbish almost on top of it, I managed to get a thorn in my finger while retrieving it, luckily my geocaching pack includes a first aid kit with tweezers so I was soon all good :)
next one was at lytton along the river, you had to get down onto the beach there for this one, and I wasnt going down the side of the cliff! I found a set of steps leading down to the beach so that was a lot better, tide was going out so I didn't have to get my feet wet at all, found the location of the cache and wasted some time scrabbling around in the bank for it before I recalled the "look up" clue, right above me was a dead tree stump, of course that's where it was!, got a geocoin out of this one. also had some old guy in a boat anchored offshore watching me, probably wondering what on earth I was doing!
Onto the next one which was just a little bit further down the road at a boat ramp, there were a few people with boats getting them ready to go out so I had to stealthly grab the cache from its spot and then took it over to a nearby table to check it out. I saw Ice had been there the week before lol. signed the log and took it back to its hiding spot, a fire engine pulled up while I was doing this they looked out over the river and then drove off, very strange.
all in all a good day :)

After coming home from fail attempt at working, I napped for a bit. Was chatting to joey and then he went out to find a cache that he previously didn't find, when he came back he asked if I knew of any around we could go look for
Went to Kuraby park for a micro one, I had failed at finding this one before, both our gps took a while to settle down, but once they did it was an easy find, found another in a nearby park and then failed to find the next one, found one more before deciding we'd had enough of being eaten by mozzies.

Today I was once again out , this time with Kita, Claw, Kiba and her bro Kyle, we picked a spot at Bardon, near the base of Mt Cootha. This was a nice easy trek, and the cache itself wasnt far from the path this time, Kiba spotted it first, was one of those plant camo ones.
We were going to do a couple of others in the area but they were all listed as inactive, will have to keep an eye on them and go back another day.
After that it was back into the car and up onto Mt Cootha to find a cache called Misty, this one wasn't to far from Ch 10 tower, but it was up a steep path!
Another easy find once again by Kiba, me and Claw dropped off one of our geocoins each, I figure anyone who climbs up there deserves them lol.
claw took a bright yellow cap from this one.
Back in the car and off to Bardon park where we hoped to find a couple more before me and kita had to head home, the first was down a nice easy trail and again easy to find, I think Kyle got this one as we were distracted by a native beehive in a hollow tree stump, Claw claimed a wristband thing from this one and left some coins, I cant recall what type. Back to the car park and we took bearings for another one, This one almost killed me lol A very steep climb no matter which way you approached it, Kyle and Kiba found this one before I managed to make it to the top of the hill, which was fine cause it was down the other side ;) they kindly bought it up to the top so I wouldn't have to climb down to it (thanks guys)
I don't think we took anything from this one, Im a little disappointed with the junk some people put in these things, I realise that its not the main point of the exercise but it would be nice to swap some of our trinkets for other nice ones. I don't feel motivated to swap something nice for a tatty old maccas toy.
Back to the carpark and Kita called it a day for us, so we headed back home to get our grocery shopping done and the others went and found a few more caches in the area, 6 I think Claw said?
was good fun and a lot of fun to do with a group of like minds, we'll probably do another weekend soon over this side of town :)
