We hired Christie Dustman & Co for a major landscaping project in 2023. Our designer was Sarah Rabdau. Sarah’s design was extremely creative and left us in awe. Sarah is also an absolute pleasure to work with! The finished product was spectacular! I highly recommend the company and Sarah in particular.

I have hired Christie and crew on numerous occasions for my own projects at my home. They are exceptional at every turn. Christie has an eye for detail and her crew is very easy to work with. I have also referred Christie to many clients who are also always more than pleased with the services provided. I would not hesitate to recommend Christie Dustman and Co.

We’ve have used Christie Dustman and Company for several landscape design and installation projects over the 12 years we have lived in Brookline. Christie’s designs and choice of plants have stood the test of time. Installations from 12 years ago continue to thrive. Christie is professional as is her team and all are a pleasure to work with.

Christie Dustman & Company have done an awesome project in our modest-sized backyard in Roslindale. They designed and installed a hardscape plan which is beautitful, by listening to our needs, lifestyle and offerring options to fit our budget. This year the plantings have gone in and they are perfect. I highly recommend Christie & Co.!

FAQ

What happens during the landscape design process?

Our landscape design process begins with an on-site consultation to understand what your needs and goals are, as well as evaluate your outdoor space. Next, we develop a client-centered landscape design plan that reflects your lifestyle, goals, and fits the layout of your land. Once the design is finalized and approved by you, our team will manage the installation, from hardscape construction to planting. We ensure that every detail is handled with care, giving you a landscape that is functional and beautiful.

How long does the landscape design process take?

Timelines vary depending on the scope of the project, but most design projects take up to a couple of months to complete – from the initial meeting through design and pricing. Once there is a signed installation contract, the start date is based on our company schedule that represents multiple projects. Typically, it can be a 4–6 week wait for installation to start. During your consultation, we will give you a better idea of what you can expect based on your project needs so that you can plan ahead.

Will I be involved during the design process?

Yes, we want to know what you want and what you like. We value communication and collaboration. We take the time to understand your goals, preferences, and what is important to you. You will weigh in on design ideas, and your feedback will impact the final plan. The final result is uniquely yours, and feels like “home”.

Do I need to have a full design plan for my landscape project?

You don’t always have to have an extensive landscape design plan for CD & Co. to help you achieve a small improvement. But for larger projects, a landscape design plan maps out all the details and features for your property. This comprehensive plan allows the project to be executed in phases, and once complete, all the pieces fit together perfectly. During the design consultation, we can determine what level of planning you will need.

Can I hire CD & Co. for the design plan and use my contractor(s) to install- or even install it myself?

It all starts with our philosophy of Design.  We believe that the design process spans from the initial project ideas all the way through to the final plant going in the ground. So as a full-service design/build company, we do not provide ‘design only’ services.

What is the advantage of using a design/build firm?

Our experience shows that having one company handle the entire process provides better value, clockwork coordination, increased efficiency and an all around better outcome for our clients.  We have forged long term relationships with a stable of trusted colleagues and the resulting synergy eliminates misunderstandings, unclear responsibilities and project strain. Many moments during an installation process require informed design decisions as ideas meet real life materials and site conditions. We are there to provide guidance.  Having the same “mind” that developed the plan oversee its installation results in a better outcome.

What will happen once the installation is completed?

Once your project is completed, it starts to grow and develop. If desired, we can provide garden maintenance services to help guide the garden’s growth and to support the health of your garden long term. A garden is not static, so working with you as the garden owner to maximize the benefits of the garden is our collaborative goal.
