Playdates U8-U12

The Aim of the Play Dates  

The main goal of these Playdates is to provide an affordable and fun way for U8-U12 teams to come together for a day of games at various locations across Maryland and nearby areas.

Borrowed from a Dutch soccer tradition, clubs attend very few tournaments (if any), but they will attend “Playdate” events in the younger age groups at various clubs.

Playdates aim to create a cost-effective and exciting experience for young players, focusing on enjoyment over competition. Teams are matched with opponents of similar skill levels from different regions.

The Philosophy of the Playdates  

At CPSL, we firmly believe that soccer events should be a place of camaraderie, learning, and good sportsmanship, creating a positive environment for everyone involved.

Therefore, Playdates are all about development and having fun, rather than competition. While scores are posted, there are no awards.

Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

• Encouragement Matters: Cheer for your players and celebrate their efforts, big or small. A supportive environment helps them enjoy the game and grow in confidence.
• Respect is Key: Treat everyone—players, coaches, referees, and other parents—with respect, kindness and courtesy, regardless of their backgrounds and affiliations. This ensures a welcoming atmosphere for all.
• Good Sideline Behavior: Keep things positive on the sidelines and display sportsmanlike presence.. Avoid negative comments, criticism, or disparaging remarks about players, coaches or referees. Our actions set an example for our players.
• Handle Conflicts Calmly: If issues arise, address them privately and respectfully with the relevant individuals. Public confrontations can be disruptive and distressing to players, and detract from the experience for everyone.
• Let Coaches Coach: Support your child’s development by leaving coaching to the professionals. Encourage your child to listen to and respect their coach’s instructions.
• Enjoy the Day: Remember, Playdates are a celebration of soccer and the efforts of younger players. Share in the joy and excitement and make it a memorable experience for your child.

As the host, your primary responsibility is to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone involved. We ask for your cooperation in promoting positive behavior and sportsmanship throughout the event. Your efforts will play a significant role in ensuring the success and enjoyment of the day for all participants.
