TAILORED MEDIA SUPPORT

The Centre for Media Monitoring (CfMM) delivers tailored training to newsrooms, media organisations and industry bodies, designed to strengthen coverage of Muslims and Islam through rigorous analysis, professional reflection and practical newsroom tools.

What Our Training Covers

Our sessions provide participants with a deep, evidence-based understanding of how misrepresentation can arise, the pressures journalists and editors face in reporting, and what good practice looks like in fast-moving editorial environments.

  • We examine both problematic and exemplary coverage, helping teams identify patterns, avoid common pitfalls and build confidence in fair, accurate reporting.
  • The training is highly interactive and grounded in real-world case studies drawn from print, broadcast, online and social media.
  • Participants are encouraged to analyse interviews, programme content, headlines, imagery, framing and terminology, developing sharper awareness of recurring tropes and the impact these can have on public understanding and affected communities.
  • Each session brings together local, national and international examples, enabling journalists, editors and commissioners to recognise inaccuracies, bias and narrative framing across platforms — and to reflect on how editorial decisions are made in practice.

Crucially, CfMM equips participants with practical resources, recommendations and expert contacts that can be applied immediately in the newsroom, supporting higher editorial standards and more responsible, nuanced coverage.
