The Pulse Sequence Jungle of MRI

This course addresses the need for MR radiologists and technologists to enhance their knowledge of MRI contrast, imaging parameters, and pulse sequence mechanisms. Participants will learn to identify, explain, and evaluate key pulse sequences, including spin echo, dual spin echo, fast/turbo spin echo, inversion recovery, and gradient echoes, along with their parameters, weighting, and advantages/disadvantages. Strategies such as detailed analysis of image weighting, timing, and reconstruction will be employed to close this gap. Upon completion, participants will be equipped to select and optimize pulse sequences, apply chemical presaturation techniques, and understand advanced concepts like 3D sequences and K-space filling. This knowledge will empower professionals to improve diagnostic accuracy, streamline imaging protocols, and enhance patient care in clinical MRI practice.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand basic MRI contrast and imaging parameters.
  2. Understand the basic mechanisms of pulse sequences used in MRI.
  3. Understand the advantages/disadvantages of these pulse sequences.
