Mieke Verloo
Mieke Verloo is Professor of Comparative Politics and Inequality Issues at Radboud University in the Netherlands, and Non-Residential Permanent Fellow at the IWM, Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. She has extensive publications on gender equality policymaking in Europe, on gender mainstreaming and intersectionality, on gendered body politics, gendered knowledge politics, and on opposition to gender equality in Europe. A large part of her current work is on the complex relationship between democracy and gender+ equality.

Julia Pałejko
Julia Pałejko is a Project Manager at the Radboud University in Nijmegen and Research Assistant at the University of Amsterdam. In the CCINDLE project she is responsible for WP7 (Management) and for specific tasks within Work Packages 1 and 3. She graduated from a Research Master’s in Social Sciences and holds a Ba in Sociology. Her interests include the relationship between gender and democracy in transitioning states as well as anti-gender campaigns and their role in politics in the Polish context. When living in Warsaw she was involved in activist work surrounding LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive health.

Johanna Kantola
Johanna Kantola (she/her) is Professor of European Societies and their Politics in the Centre for European Studies (CES) in the University Helsinki. Her current research centres on European integration, EU institutions and governance and especially the European Parliament. She studies the European Parliament’s political groups from the point of view of equality and democracy in the context of her European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator grant funded Gender, party politics and democracy in Europe: A study of European Parliament’s party groups EUGenDem project (2018-2023). She has researched extensively gender and politics in Europe, including gender equality policies in the EU and Finland.

Valentine Berthet
Valentine Berthet is a postdoctoral researcher in the Center for European Studies in the University of Helsinki. She obtained her Ph.D. in Social Sciences at Tampere University in 2022 and an LL.M. in International Law from the University of Kent in 2017. Her current research focuses on gender equality policies at the EU level and especially gendered violence and reproductive right issues in the European Parliament. Andrea Krizsán
Andrea Krizsan is Senior Research Fellow at the Democracy Institute and Professor at the Department of Public Policy and the Gender Studies Department of the Central European University Budapest/Vienna. Her research is on democracy/de-democratization, with a focus on gender aspects, particularly gender-based violence and civil society participation. She has a PhD in Political Science from the Central European University. Andrea coordinates WP2 on anti-gender mobilizations and plays an active role in WP1 Theory as well as WP3 Feminist resistance.
Mirjam Sági
Mirjam is a postdoctoral researcher at the Central European University. She has a mixed social science background in Gender Studies (CEU), Human Geography (UCL) and Sociology (University of Leeds). Mirjam has recently submitted her PhD dissertation to the Social and Economic Geography Department of Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, focusing on the ways in which fear affects public space and democracy. She is a member of the HerStory collective which is an informal feminist organisation collecting women’s narratives of their life with a special interest in green feminism.

Emanuela Lombardo
Emanuela Lombardo is Professor of Political Science at the Scuola Normale Superiore, Florence. Her lines of research are gender equality policies in the European Union and Spain, and feminist politics and democracy. She is PI of the SNS team and co-coordinator of the WP4 on feminist institutional responses in the Horizon-Europe CCINDLE project on democracy and feminism (Ref: 101061256, 2022-2026). She has directed and participated in different national and European research projects and has been visiting professor in the universities of Madison-Wisconsin, Helsinki, Antwerp, Tampere, Radboud and Alborg. Her latest edited volume is The European Commission under President Ursula von der Leyen. Gender, Leadership, Policies, and Crises (with Gabriele Abels, Johanna Kantola, & Henriette Müller, Oxford University Press, 2025), and the latest special issues she has edited are Gender Inequalities in Academia: Multiple Approaches to Closing the Gap (Sociologia del Lavoro 168/2024, with Manuela Naldini and Barbara Poggio) and ‘De-democratization and opposition to gender equality politics in Europe’ (Social Politics 28, 3, 2021, with Johanna Kantola and Ruth Rubio). Silvia Díaz Fernández
Silvia Díaz Fernández is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Political and Administration Science at Complutense University of Madrid and part of the SNS team. She received her PhD in Media and Sociology from Coventry University in 2020. Previously, she was the beneficiary of a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship. She has participated in multiple international and national projects looking at gender and inequality. She is a member of the Institute of Gender Studies at Carlos III University of Madrid and the research network Postdigital Intimacies at the Centre for Postdigital Cultures at Coventry University. Her past research has explored the mediatization of violence against women, digital anti-feminism and contemporary masculinit(ies). Her current work focuses on feminist politics, anti-gender movements and processes of de-democratization in Spain.
Paloma Caravantes
Paloma Caravantes (she/her) is a postdoctoral Juan de la Cierva researcher at the Department of Political Science and Administration of Complutense University of Madrid and part of the SNS team. In 2019, Paloma received her PhD in Women’s and Gender Studies at Rutgers University (New Jersey, USA). She has participated in multiple international projects and is currently a team member of ‘The Gender Division in the Agenda of the Catalan Parliament’ and a member of the ECPR Steering Committee of the Standing Group on Gender and Politics, and the Gender and Politics Group (GEYPO) at Complutense University of Madrid. Her research explores the relation between populism and feminist politics; the gendered organizational culture of institutions; and the implementation of intersectionality and gender equality approaches in public policies. Her current research explores processes of feminist democratisation at the local level.

Petra Meier
Petra Meier (she/her) is Professor in Politics, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Antwerp. Her research focuses on the (re)presentation of gender in politics and policies. She studies the consequences of (in)formal institutions for the (re)production of (in)equality, investigating (aspects of) political systems, such as electoral systems, political parties, and state architectures, but also the gender bias in public policies, especially the discursive (re)production of power relations and inequality in policymaking. She focuses on how such constructions give shape to experienced realities and constitute a setting for the perpetuation or contestation of the needs and interests of social groups. She is the co-chair of A*, the Antwerp Gender and Sexuality Studies Network.

Rylan Verlooy
Rylan Verlooy (they/them) is a PhD researcher in political sciences working on the intersections between anti-gender campaigns, feminisms, and (trans)gender studies. They obtained a Masters in Philosophy and previously worked as a scientific employee in the field of transgender healthcare.

Marta Rawłuszko
Marta Rawłuszko (she/her) is Assistant Professor of Social Science at the University of Warsaw and a co-founder of the Feminist Fund in Poland. In the summer term 2023, she is a visiting scholar in the Margherita von Brentano Center at the Freie Universität in Berlin. Her current research interests focus on feminist activism, political theory and sexual violence. Her work has been published in international journals such as Politics & Gender, European Journal of Women Studies and European Journal of Politics & Gender. She has also contributed to the Routledge Handbook of the Politics of #MeToo Movement (2020). She is the leader of WP1 on Theoretical frame for understanding challenges to democracy in Europe and assess feminist futures of society.

Barbara Dynda (she/her) is a PhD researcher at the Institute of Polish Culture at the University of Warsaw, a member of the Section for Contemporary Culture. She holds an inter-area MA in humanities and social sciences. Her current work explores anarcha-feminist and anarcha-queer movements in Poland as part of a grant project funded by NCN Grassroots Feminism in the Transformation and Post-Transformation Poland: An Analysis of Discourses, Practices and Identities Represented in the Polish Feminist Zines after 1989. Her academic interests include Polish feminist history, feminist studies and queer theories.
Zuzanna Rokita
Zuzanna Rokita (she/her) is a PhD researcher at the Institute of Applied Social Sciences of the University of Warsaw. Her PhD research focused on feminist disability studies, in particular on bodily autonomy, reproductive justice and sexuality. She is also a feminist and pro-abortion activist.

Elżbieta Korolczuk
Elżbieta Korolczuk is an Associate professor in sociology working at Södertörn University in Stockholm and at the American Studies Center, Warsaw University. Her research interests involve social movements, politics of reproduction as well as right-wing populism and mobilizations against “gender”. Her most recent publication is a monograph Anti-gender Politics in the Populist Moment written with Agnieszka Graff (2021, Routledge). She is also a commentator and a long-time women’s and human rights activist. In the CCINDLE project she is co-leader of WP2 on anti-gender campaigns and for the Swedish context.
Hansalbin Sältenberg
Hansalbin Sältenberg (he/him) holds a PhD in Gender Studies from Lund University (Sweden) and is currently employed by Södertörn University within the frame of the CCINDLE project. In his doctoral thesis Anti-Jewish Racism: exploring the Swedish Racial Regime (2022), Sältenberg analysed the phenomenon of contemporary anti-Jewish racism/antisemitism in Sweden from a critical race-perspective, in relation to constructions of “Swedishness”. His research interests range from gender/sexuality/trans, critical race studies, class/Marxism, and postcolonialism, to psychosocial studies.

Alex Murphy
Alex Murphy (he/him) is a Senior Research Analyst at Trilateral Research, and leads the dissemination and communication work package for CCINDLE. Alex holds an MSc in Applied Criminology and BA in Criminology, and his academic interests include hate crime, politics, prisons and probation. His PhD focused on the connection between online hate speech and political rhetoric in the aftermath of hate crime trigger events.

Akwugo Emejulu
Akwugo Emejulu is Professor of Sociology at the University of Sheffield. Her research interests include the political sociology of race, class and gender and women of colour’s grassroots activism in Europe and the United States. She is the author of several books including Precarious Solidarity (forthcoming Manchester University Press), Fugitive Feminism (Silver Press, forthcoming 2022) and Minority Women and Austerity: Survival and Resistance in France and Britain (Policy Press, 2017). Aerin Lai
Aerin Lai (she/they) is a research associate at the University of Sheffield, working with Prof. Akwugo Emejulu on the UK team. They recently completed their PhD at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on citizenship-making practices, race, and masculinity among Singaporean men for their PhD dissertation. Their dissertation used a decolonial intersectional approach to understanding how Singaporean men experienced and made meaning in their everyday lives, as racialised men, and how those practices cohere with broader discourse around citizenship. Their research interests are: post/de/anti-colonial studies; race; gender and sexuality; nationalism and citizenship.
Emilia Belknap
Dr Emilia Belknap is a Senior Research Associate in the University of Sheffield’s Department of Sociological Studies, working with Professor Akwugo Emejulu on the UK Team. She recently completed her PhD entitled ‘Sex, gender and constitutional attitudes: voting behaviour in the Scottish independence referendum’. Her thesis utilised a mixed-method approach to investigate an under-researched dimension of the complex relationship between sex, gender and voting behaviour. The thesis focused on the dynamics of gender, voting behaviour and constitutional change using the case of the gender vote gaps in support of Scottish independence. She has worked on a range of gender- and political-focused projects, such as the British Academy’s Gender, Ministers and Institutions project, IPPR’s State of the Unions Survey and the Scottish Government’s Domestic Abuse Court Experiences (DACE) Scotland project.

Conny Roggeband
Conny Roggeband (she/her) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Amsterdam. She has written extensively on the politicisation of gender-based violence, gender mainstreaming and equality policies, social movements and transnational feminist networking. Her current research focuses on the implications of democratic backsliding for gender equality policies in Central and Eastern Europe and Latin America. She co-authored (with Andrea Krizsan) Politicizing Gender and Democracy in the Context of the Istanbul Convention (Palgrave 2021) and The Gender Politics of Domestic Violence. Feminists Engaging the State in Central and Eastern Europe (Routledge 2018). She edited (together with Bert Klandermans) The Handbook of Social Movements Across Disciplines (Springer 2017).
