CPD Program

Mission Statement for the CAR CPD Program

The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program of the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) aims to empower radiologists and trainees across Canada with lifelong learning opportunities that enhance diagnostic and interventional capabilities, improve patient care, and advance the field of radiology. Through innovative education, collaborative engagement, and the integration of cutting-edge research and technology, we are committed to fostering excellence in radiological practice.

Purpose

The CAR CPD program serves to:

  1. Equip radiologists and trainees with evidence-based, practice-relevant education and tools to make timely and accurate clinical decisions.
  2. Advance the science and practice of radiology by integrating innovation, research, and quality improvement into education.
  3. Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive professional learning environment to enhance healthcare outcomes for all Canadians.

Measurable Goals

  1. Education Delivery: Increase participation in CPD programs annually by offering diverse educational formats tailored to urban, rural, and remote practitioners.
  2. Impact on Practice: Evaluate improvements in clinical knowledge and anticipated changes to clinical practice after CPD activities. Where appropriate, assess interval retention of information from the CPD learning activity.
  3. Innovation Integration: Develop and integrate new learning activities each year that focus on emerging technologies and cutting-edge radiological practices.
  4. Collaboration: Enhance interprofessional educational opportunities by including collaborative learning activities each year with allied healthcare professionals.
  5. Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility: Ensure representation from all regions of Canada in CPD development and delivery, with a target of at least one initiative annually focusing on the unique needs of radiologists in underserviced areas.

Commitment to Excellence

Aligned with CAR’s strategic pillars of advocacy, education, patient care, research, and innovation, this mission statement will be formally reviewed and updated every three years to ensure it continues to reflect the evolving needs of the radiology profession and meet the changing landscape of the healthcare system in Canada.

These valuable learning opportunities will continue to showcase CAR’s excellence in medical imaging education, serving as a pivotal resource for staying abreast of new developments in the field.

Dr. Andrew Chung

“I believe the CAR is uniquely positioned to meet the educational needs of Canadian radiologists, and we’re excited to be refreshing our CPD program to better serve those needs. From streamlining needs assessment and topic selection to improving accreditation and delivery – including laying the groundwork for a new eLearning platform – we’re focused on creating educational offerings that are flexible, accessible, and directly applicable to radiologists’ diverse practice environments and subspecialty interests. Radiologists are busier than ever, and our goal is to ensure learning remains relevant and impactful, supporting radiologists in maintaining excellence in day-to-day practice while preparing them for the innovations ahead.”

External Accreditation Program

The CAR have paused their external accreditation program. We are revisiting our processes and policies right now and hope to be able to offer support again in the future. These requests can often be processed through your local Academic Institute or the Royal College maintains a list of organizations that will review accreditation applications.
