'The Barn' is the conversion and extension of a former agricultural building by Matthew Clay Architects. The existing stone structure has been retained and carefully integrated with contemporary additions, creating a home that balances original fabric with modern architectural clarity. The project was delivered by Sam Waldron of Bluemill Properties Ltd, who acted as principal contractor and oversaw the construction.

Internally, exposed stone walls sit alongside clean-lined cabinetry, timber detailing and expansive black-framed glazing. The pitched ceiling enhances the sense of volume within the open-plan kitchen and living space, while large openings draw natural light deep into the plan.

Trusloe Limestone in a seasoned finish runs throughout the interior, forming a calm and consistent foundation beneath the varied textures of stone, timber and glass. Its subtle tonal variation and softly aged surface bring quiet movement to the floor, complementing rather than competing with the retained barn walls.

The material continues uninterrupted through the glazed openings and out onto the terrace, where Trusloe Limestone Paving extends the internal flooring into the courtyard. This continuity reduces the visual boundary between inside and out, allowing the garden to feel directly connected to the living space.

Externally, the limestone sits comfortably against the surrounding stonework and landscape. Internally, it grounds the contemporary interventions and enhances the sense of cohesion across the scheme.

Through the consistent use of Trusloe Limestone, the project achieves a unified material language that supports both the historic structure and the modern extension. The result is a home defined by clarity, continuity and restraint.
