Auditions for The Real Inspector Hound, by Tom Stoppard

We are looking for actors with a wonderful sense of comedy and physicality for our upcoming production of The Real Inspector Hound, directed by Holly Erin McCarthy. Please prepare a short comic monologue of a minute or so. All listed roles are available. Auditions are by appointment but walk-ins will be seen in between scheduled auditions on a first come, first served basis. Audition Dates:

Saturday, April 11, 1 pm – 4 pm
Sunday, April 12 1 pm – 4 pm
at Cape Rep Indoor Theater

Rehearsals start on or about May 25
Production dates are currently scheduled for June 24 – July 19, 2026 in the Indoor Theater

The Real Inspector Hound by Tom Stoppard

Summary: A comedic spoof of an Agatha Christie-style whodunit in which two theater critics become entangled in the very murder mystery they are reviewing. In The Real Inspector Hound, Tony and Academy award-winning playwright Tom Stoppard has crafted a witty and gripping tale in which identity is as variable as a mustache.

Available Roles and Character Breakdown:

MOON – Second string theater critic of a major newspaper in London. Ambitious but insecure.

BIRDBOOT – First string theater critic with the “other” major London paper. Has a bit of an ego. Married but a womanizer.

MRS. DRUDGE – The dutiful maid who sees and hears everything that goes on in Muldoon Manor.

SIMON GASCOYNE – Young, dashing, self-absorbed, flirty.

FELICITY CUNNINGHAM – Young, very attractive, enjoys tennis, Cynthia’s friend.

CYNTHIA MULDOON – The Lady of the Manor and wife of the missing Albert Muldoon. She is wealthy, upper class, beautiful.

MAJOR MAGNUS MULDOON – The half-brother of Albert Muldoon. Or is he?

INSPECTOR HOUND – A Holmes-like detective. Or is he?
