Sometimes the right path isn’t the first one you choose.

After working in physical therapy and retail, Tommy Russ found himself feeling burnt out and looking for something more. So he made a decision that changed everything: he enrolled at 4Cs.

Now in his second year at 4Cs, Tommy is pursuing engineering and exploring everything from electronics and programming to 3D design and printing. What started as a love for building things quickly turned into a passion for creating, designing, and solving problems.

“From my first engineering class, I was just like, okay, yep, I can do this for the rest of my life.”

The best part of Tommy’s story isn’t that he found engineering. It’s that he kept looking until he found something he loved.

“My number one goal was just to get into PTK.”

Breanna Keesling came to 4Cs wanting to prove to herself that she was capable of succeeding in college. Today, she’s graduating as the PRESIDENT of Phi Theta Kappa.

As a psychology major, tutor, peer mentor, researcher, president, and student leader, Breanna used her time at 4Cs to grow academically and personally while building confidence she didn’t always have when she first arrived on campus.

Next stop: UMass Amherst Honors College.

Breanna’s story is a reminder that confidence isn’t always something you arrive with. Sometimes it’s something you build when you finally give yourself the opportunity to grow.

“Comparison is the thief of joy.”

That’s the advice Colby Firnrohr wants other students to hear.

After taking a two-year gap following high school, Colby came to 4Cs unsure of exactly what he wanted his college experience to look like. Over time, he started getting involved, meeting new people, joining organizations, and saying yes to opportunities that pushed him outside his comfort zone.

Today, he’s a third-year Blue Economy student preparing for internships, hands-on work in shellfish farming, and a future career connected to the ocean environment he grew up around.

At 4Cs, every student’s path looks different; and that’s the point.

Whether you’re just starting college, returning later in life, or figuring things out one step at a time, there’s space here to grow, explore, and discover what’s next.
