THE
FACTS
WHAT IS
IT LIKE
TO AGE
WITH
HIV?
HIV treatment has improved so much that people living with HIV have virtually no change in their life expectancy compared to someone who isn’t living with the virus.
However, issues associated with HIV treatment tend to get more complex with age. HIV does affect our immune system and can impact other health conditions and symptoms as we grow older.
Because of this, people living with HIV need to be especially proactive about their physical and mental health as they age.
AS WE AGE, HIV CAN IMPACT…
IMMUNE SYSTEM DECLINE
KIDNEY DISEASE
CARDIOVASCULAR (HEART) DISEASE
BONE DISORDERS
CANCER
DIABETES
SEXUAL HEALTH ISSUES
AND MORE

IS IT
AGE,
OR IS
IT HIV?
Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether a symptom is due to HIV or aging, so people with HIV need to take good care of their general health and pay close attention to changes in their bodies.
That includes important screening tests to monitor your health as you get older; such as for diabetes, kidney function, bone density, blood pressure, cholesterol and various cancers.
