EDGE Suedkreuz

Buro Happold was proud to work on Germany’s biggest freestanding hybrid-timber project and one of the largest in Europe. The aim was to reduce the building’s carbon footprint, use sustainable and healthy materials and take into account the well-being of the occupants. 

We worked closely with Cree by Rhomberg, innovators of a revolutionary new construction system, to achieve a fully modular, timber-concrete-hybrid structure.

Battersea Power Station

The transformation of the 42-acre brownfield site around the formerly redundant Battersea Power Station is one of the most ambitious regeneration projects London has seen in decades.

Our teams brought their expertise across a broad range of disciplines to tackle a variety of challenges. These included a constrained site bordered by overland railway lines to one side, the new tube line to the south and a Thames Water high pressure main to the east.

Deep Energy Retrofits

Empire State Realty Trust (ESRT) owns the Empire State Building and is a leader in sustainability and energy efficiency with a focus on the ROI-driven returns for its investors and indoor environment quality for its tenants.

Buro Happold worked closely with ESRT, governmental body the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and a team of collaborators to develop pathways to achieve net zero carbon emissions and support energy solutions across ESRT’s portfolio.

Museum of the Future

The Museum of the Future symbolises both future progress and the regional design influence of Dubai with its use of modern materials, and Arabic poetry written by HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum represented in 3D on the facade surface.

Our specialist engineers developed bespoke in-house optimisation routines to model and analyse numerous options for the structure to achieve the Museum of the Future’s iconic shape.

Jewel Changi Airport

Seamlessly integrating leisure and lifestyle attractions with state-of-the-art aviation facilities, the Jewel Changi Airport in Singapore delivers an exceptional – and unforgettable – passenger experience.

Working with Safdie Architects, our team engineered the world’s largest gridshell to enclose a building.

High Line

Built in the 1930s and last used in 1980, the High Line was a little known and long abandoned stretch of elevated railroad that spanned Manhattan’s meatpacking district. Buro Happold was commissioned to create a masterplan for the reuse and reintegration of the railroad.

Our engineers transformed an abandoned 1930s freight train track into a beautiful park that meanders through Manhattan’s trendy meatpacking district.

SAP Garden

SAP Garden will be the new home for the Munich Red Bulls ice hockey team and an additional home venue for FC Bayern Munich Basketball. Our experts played a crucial role in achieving the ultra-modern, partially subterranean design.

Several complementary Buro Happold disciplines, including acoustics, facade and traffic consultancy, are being applied in unison to shape an exceptional spectator experience.

Tottenham Hotspur FC

Not only does the new Tottenham Hotspur FC stadium offer fans a better experience, with a flexible venue and increased profitability for our client, but the quality of the final building has also catalysed a wider regeneration scheme across Haringey so that the surrounding area can better support this incredible venue.

This project is the perfect example of Buro Happold’s ability to think laterally to find creative engineering solutions for sports and entertainment venues that work for our client.
