Trump’s budget is not the dire killing kids and Grandma

So much all of this gloom and doom about the 2018 Budget proposal by Trump. Today a guest post by Mustang with his interesting analysis.

America’s Economic Security

Diaper-headed persons aren’t the only folk capable of throwing bombs.  OMB Director Mick Mulvaney threw one recently and by every measure, the bomb was one of those multiple warhead configurations.  At this early stage, I think it would be fair to say that Trump’s plan for achieving America’s economic security has the leftists quaking in their designer shoes. Here first the Mulvaney presser; it gets interesting around the 9:30 mark.  It is worthy of a few minutes of your time.  For more background on Mulvaney, click here.

The Trump bill calls for a spending cut of $1.74 trillion.  No surprise, the usual suspects are running around proclaiming the bill is dead on arrival.  How’s this for optimism?

In criticizing the previous administration, Mulvaney stated, “Look, if you borrow money … if I take money from you and have no intention of giving it back, that’s not borrowing; it’s theft.”  Rather, Mulvaney stated that he’s offering the American people a 3% growth rate, and a balanced budget in ten years … and he says the Trump administration can do this without touching Social Security and Medicare.

In any case, the way I see it, Mulvaney’s approach seems to be a centrist position; helping people by weaning them off welfare assistance programs.  This is not an ultra-conservative notion, but it is Reaganesque.  I can support it.  Mulvaney went on to say, “We’re no longer measuring compassion by the number of programs, or the number of people on those programs, but by the number of people we get off of those programs.”

So, the leftists are screaming bloody murder, but then so too are the ultra-conservatives.  One in particular is a fellow named Peter Schiff.  Peter is a broker, which means that no matter what happens to the economy, he stands to profit by it.  In my view, brokers are somewhat like bookies … they get paid even if you lose.  If you have a few more minutes, here is Peter (not a fan of Trump, or his budget) being interviewed about the Trump economic plan.  (Note: look at the small banner in the upper right side of the screen that reads “Revenge Economics.”  Is this clever, or what?)  What Schiff wants is to stop all entitlement programs, period.  For an expanded background on Schiff, click here.

Personally, as someone who’s paid in to social service programs against my will for more than fifty years, I want every dime I can get from it.  Still, I would be interested in hearing what the reader’s think about the Trump bill.

Missing Libyan Planes pose threat, Obama lifts ban on attending flight schools

Try to connect these dots. The OMB now gives approval for Libyans who may now attend flight schools here in the U.S., reported on August 12. Please let me know what the Office of Management and Budget has to do with this? Now we learn the same month that about a dozen planes went missing when terrorists took over the airport in Tripoli. Meanwhile our Happy Face President tells us there is nothing to worry about and has no plans.

Islamist militias in Libya took control of nearly a dozen commercial jetliners last month, and western intelligence agencies recently issued a warning that the jets could be used in terrorist attacks across North Africa.

Intelligence reports of the stolen jetliners were distributed within the U.S. government over the past two weeks and included a warning that one or more of the aircraft could be used in an attack later this month on the date marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against New York and Washington, said U.S. officials familiar with the reports.

The state-owned Libyan Airlines fleet until this summer included 14 passenger and cargo jetliners, including seven Airbus 320s, one Airbus 330, two French ATR-42 turboprop aircraft, and four Bombardier CJR-900s. Libyan state-owned Afriqiyah Airways fleet is made up of 13 aircraft, including three Airbus 319s, seven Airbus 320s, two Airbus 330s, and one Airbus 340.

Obama Lifts Ban on Libyans Attending U.S. Flight Schools, Training In Nuke Science. Ban has been in place since 1983. August 12, 2014

The Obama administration has lifted longtime restrictions on Libyans attending flight schools in the United States and training here in nuclear science, according to a final amendment of the ban recently approved by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

DHS said the prohibition is irrelevant now since the United States and Libya have worked to “normalize their relationship,” according to the directive approved by the OMB.

Members of the House Judiciary Committee expressed outrage on Monday about the rollback in the law, maintaining that Libyans continue to pose a security risk to the United States, particularly if they are given access to train in the aviation and nuclear fields.

Obama’s wacko Libyan policy. Attacks UAE and EGYPT for trying to save Tripoli

The United States and European allies have issued a warning on Libya, condemning the ‘escalation’ in violence there while cautioning against outside meddling. The group of nations called for an immediate ceasefire.

The statement, signed by the governments of France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States, warned that outside interference in Libya would worsen divisions and slow down any hope of a democratic transition in the country. (Chuckle time.)

The New York Times, citing unnamed American officials, reported that neighboring Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have launched airstrikes against Islamists in Libya twice over the past week.

The US and EU governments “strongly condemn the escalation of fighting and violence in and around Tripoli, Benghazi, and across Libya, especially against residential areas, public facilities, and critical infrastructure, by both land attack and airstrikes,” the statement said.

Administration Will Not Tell Fiscal Commission to Avoid Tax Hikes on Incomes Below $250,000

Hmm–those increases in taxes keep slipping down my way. Best part is that 40 percent do not pay any taxes. Many just feed at the trough. Dunno, zero, think you hood-winked a whole lot of folks. Lots of  luck in November. Payback can be sweet.

President Obama’s budget director would not say whether the administration will recommend that taxes not be raised on Americans earning less than $250,000 annually. Such an increase would violate the president’s campaign pledge to hike taxes only on higher income earners.

“These circumstances call for a bold, game-changing budget that will turn things around, put in place a plan to restrain spending, reduce the debt and tackle the big entitlement programs that are growing out-of-control,” Republican  Judd Gregg said in a statement.

“Instead, the president has sent us more of the same – a budget that claims to be fiscally responsible, but just below the surface contains more spending, more borrowing and more taxes. After a year in office that has put us on a pace to double the debt by 2013, the president should have a tougher plan to address our fiscal crisis, because this budget will solve nothing,” Gregg added.

President Obama’s proposed budget would increase our own debt to 77.2 percent of GDP just ten years from now.”
