How to play

With bocce, which originated in Europe and has attracted a loyal following state-side, simplicity is key. The object of the game is to roll your bocce balls closer to the pallino (also known as the boccino) ball than your opponent.

Two teams of one to six people can play on a court at one time with a bocce set consisting of eight large balls and the pallino.

The team with the most balls closest to the pallino scores, with one point awarded for every ball the scoring team has closer than the opposing team. The game continues until 12 points, or a predetermined amount, is reached.

Bundox Bocce can accommodate 72 players at once.

Players

  • One player per team = Four balls per player
  • Two players per team = Two balls per player
  • Three players per team = Two balls per player
  • Four players per team = One ball per player

Starting a Frame

  • Start with rock, paper, scissors.
  • The player that wins throws the Pallino.
  • The Pallino must stay between the center line and the 4-foot line.
  • Then, the same player throws the first bocce ball.
  • Next, the second team gets a turn rolling one of their bocce balls.
  • Bocce balls must be past the center line and CANNOT strike the back wall, unless it strikes the Pallino or another bocce ball first.
  • Each succeeding ball is thrown by the team that does NOT have the ball closest to the Pallino.
Bundox Bocce Court Outline

The goal is to:

  • Get the ball closest to the pallino, or
  • Move the pallino closer to your ball, or
  • Move the opponent’s ball

Points

  • Measure the distance of each team’s balls to the pallino (once all the balls have been tossed).
  • Get a point for each ball closest to the pallino than the opposing team.
  • The team with the most points wins Round 1 and gets to throw the pallino the next round.
  • The game continues until 12 points have been scored or another agreed upon number or time limit has been met.
