It Isn’t Love.
They’re only fourteen and falling in love for real so early isn’t impossible but they aren’t that one in a million couple. She may be mature enough to handle a serious relationship but he definitely isn’t yet and it just still doesn’t fit. They don’t need each other, they don’t depend on each other, they don’t even completely trust each other. They know each other really well, but not well enough to be in love. She cares about him and he cares about her just as much; but it’s just not enough to be labeled something as deep and meaningful as love.
It Isn’t Hate.
They piss each other off every single chance they get. They always have, and whether or not they ever get together, they probably always will. They fight tooth and nail over every little detail until they’re both too angry to listen to anyone but each other. It’s a strange sort of anger, devoid of the usual dose of hurt or resentment the emotion carries, but it’s anger none the less. He loves to make her mad, but he can’t stand to see her sad; and the same goes for her. Hate is the desire to hurt and they would never hurt each other, at least not intentionally; so it’s not hate.
It Isn’t Friendship
They don’t even like each other; they just like each other. Confused? You should be, because it makes no sense whatsoever. This Thing is way too intense to be considered “friendly”. It’s volatile, unstable, confusing, and sometimes sexually charged but never friendly. Where friends talk, they scream. Where friends hug, they shove and sometimes wrestle. Where friends don’t mean it they mean every word at the time of the fight. When friends leave they’re still left standing, wondering just how exactly this happened and they ended up on the same team. What they have is more than friendship, deeper than a crush, shallower than love and sweeter than hate. It isn’t any of those things or even all of them combined.
It’s Gravity.
They’re too alike and too different all at the same time. They’re attracting and repelling and pushing and pulling so hard they’ve ended up in this stalemate, just revolving around each other. Eventually they’ll get too close and crash into each other. The impact will be devastating no matter if it results in something good or bad or both. The pull is too strong, collision is inevitable, but they’re fighting every step of the way, because they’re both too stubborn to ever give in or admit defeat. It doesn’t matter how hard they fight it or how long it takes, Gravity wins every time.
