Flou: Design your dreams
The art of living, every night
Italy is the land of beautiful design. From fashion to furniture and from architecture to cars: Italians know better than anyone how to combine beauty and functionality. In 1978, Rosario Messina decided that the bedroom deserved the same treatment. A bed should not be an afterthought, but rather the heart of the room. With Flou Beds, he introduced the first modern upholstered bed with fully removable, washable covers: the iconic Nathalie. With this, Flou became a pioneer and market leader in design for sleep, setting the standard for practical and stylish sleep.
Italian elegance for your interior
Rosario’s conviction was clear: sleep is the foundation of our well-being. “The bed is a special place where the future is born, where couples find each other, where families are formed, where people reflect on tomorrow,” he said. With that vision, he made the ‘culture of sleep’ his life’s mission. Today, just as then, Flou Beds stands for beauty, comfort, and emotion—and for the best of Italian craftsmanship, complemented by technical innovations that elevate sleep comfort to a higher level.

Why Bröring chose Flou Beds
At Bröring, we select only brands that truly contribute to optimal sleep comfort. Flou Beds go even further: they create an environment that feels right, day and night. A place for the moments that matter—from a quiet morning coffee to a relaxing evening, and that final embrace before bedtime. It is this combination of aesthetics, sustainability, and well-being that makes Flou Beds a perfect fit for our philosophy—along with the technical edge that sets them apart.
Italian design – from the classics to the present day
The foundation of the brand’s design was laid by legends such as Vico Magistretti, designer of the groundbreaking Nathalie bed, Enzo Mari, and Rodolfo Dordoni. Their creations gave Flou a timeless signature. Today, Flou collaborates with contemporary designers such as Matteo Nunziati, who creates pieces like the elegant Gaudí bed.
Flou’s commitment to design quality has been recognized with numerous awards, including two prestigious Compasso d’Oro awards from the ADI. Each design is characterized by balance, refinement, and a timeless aesthetic, as well as subtle technical details that enhance comfort—a hallmark of Flou Beds since its early years.
Materials, craftsmanship & technology
Sleep comfort starts with the materials. Flou Beds are upholstered with luxurious Italian fabrics or leather, often fully removable and machine washable—an innovation that has remained a hallmark of the brand since 1978. Frames are crafted from high-quality wood and metal, meticulously crafted by skilled artisans.
To this end, Flou developed bed bases with gas springs in dual mounting positions, ensuring that opening and closing are always balanced—whether a light or heavy mattress is placed on top. A mattress stop prevents shifting when opening, and a long lifting strap makes operation physically easier. In addition, many slatted bases feature adjustable resistance, particularly in the lower back area, for personalized sleeping comfort.
Innovation for comfort
For Flou, innovation is never just a gimmick, but always an improvement to everyday use. A great example is “Motion 4” technology: an electrically adjustable bed base with four independent motors for the head, shoulders, legs, and feet. Thanks to thermoplastic buffer elements, the base remains elastic and durable, while a safety stop immediately engages if an obstacle is detected. Favorite positions can be accessed with the push of a button—or via an app.
Flou is also innovating in the realm of mattresses. The “Total Body” filling contains bio-ceramic fibers and silver ions, designed to promote microcirculation and create an antibacterial barrier. Models such as the Wavecare use PCM viscoelastic foam, enriched with graphite microspheres that store or release heat to maintain a stable sleeping environment.
In 2013, Flou introduced Natevo, the first Italian furniture collection featuring integrated LED lighting, which was also incorporated into bed designs in 2014. This makes lighting a functional part of the furniture, which is not only energy-efficient but also creates a pleasant atmosphere and makes reading more comfortable.
The story after 2011
Following the passing of Rosario Messina in 2011, his children—Cristiana, Manuela, and Massimiliano—took over the reins, with Massimiliano serving as president. Under their leadership, Flou has remained true to their father’s core values, and the brand has evolved into a “total living” concept for the entire home, featuring products that combine well-being, design, and Made in Italy quality.
A total experience
A Flou bed is rarely a standalone piece. It serves as the centerpiece of a complete bedroom, complemented by mattresses, textiles, nightstands, and seating. Everything is designed to reflect and enhance your lifestyle, in perfect harmony of color, texture, form—and craftsmanship.
Flou offers more than 30 models of double beds, single beds, sofa beds, and multifunctional beds, available in fabric, wood, or leather. This collection is complemented by an exclusive line of mattresses, pillows, box springs, duvets, and mattress toppers, which together form a complete and customizable sleep system.
Sustainability and Values
Flou operates with respect for the planet. Every year, the brand sets new goals to reduce its environmental impact without compromising on quality. Values such as humanity, consistency, honesty, and passion form the foundation of all its activities.
Conclusion: timeless, authentic, and technically advanced
From Rosario Messina’s pioneering spirit to his children’s vision: Flou Beds continue to innovate without losing sight of their core values. They bridge the gap between design and comfort, incorporating subtle yet clever innovations to promote a better night’s sleep. With their inclusion in the Bröring collection, you gain access to Flou—a brand that contributes to well-being, beauty, and tranquility day and night. Just as Messina intended: a bed as a source of daily happiness, and as a work of art in its own right.
