Damp Surveys Hull
If you have just bought a property, be that your new home, or place of business, a damp survey is always recommended if the property has been left for over 6 months or more. Plus it’s a great way to put your mind at rest. A damp survey is also recommended if you spot any signs of damp in your property.
With the risk of structural damage and the hazard it poses to your health, it is not just aesthetic damage you need to look out for – if you spot any signs of damp, like condensation and a ‘damp’ smell, you may have damp in the walls or brickwork.
Our team can provide a damp survey which includes all areas of your property, and details what remedial work needs to be carried out, and what damp proofing services the property needs. Find out more on our damp surveys page.
We can provide advice and services such as timber treatment, basement waterproofing and brickwork stitching.
If you need a damp survey, or need our damp proofing services, give our team a call or fill in our online contact form.
General FAQs
- How Much will it cost to remedy my damp problem/ can you give me a price over the phone? Every Damp Problem will be unique in terms of the extent of work required and the size of the problem, depending on what the issue is. It is also dependent on what products are used which in turn will affect the price.
- Are your treatments guaranteed, if so for how long? Yes, most of our work is guaranteed for 20 years.
- How long do I need to wait to redecorate after work and replastering? Non vinyl emulsion paint can normally be used after approximately 3-4 weeks. Impervious type of wall coverings such as vinyl and washable papers or paints should not be used until the walls have fully dried out. Full drying out may take up to one month for every 25mm depth of wall. Drying times are dependent on various factors such as the ventilation provided during the drying process, the room temperature and the extent of dampness initially.
- How long is the report and quotation of works valid for? Once we have inspected your property, the quotation provided will be valid for 3 months. After this time we would need to review the quote, however most of the time the cost will remain the same for longer. If the report is over 9 months from the date of inspection another visit would be necessary.
- What experience do your employees have? All surveyors carrying out the initial inspection have extensive experience in the remedial industry and are qualified with Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatments (CSRT) or equivalent. As of 2018, this certification has changed to Certificated Surveyor of Timber & Dampness in Buildings (CSTDB). All of our installers are employed by British Damp Proofing directly and no work listed within a report is sub contracted out.
- Do you charge for surveys? Surveys are subject to a cost. Our head office will advise you on the exact cost and other other queries you may have.
- How soon can you come out and survey the issue? We will usually visit the property within 7-10 days of receiving the inspection fee. During peak periods this may be longer.
- Can your surveyor give me a price on the day? In short, no. Our surveyors carry out the initial inspection and take measurements that are required. Their notes are then emailed to the office and costings calculated. As their notes are sent across to the office digitally and the reports are emailed to the client unless requested otherwise, you will receive the report within 2 business days.

British Damp Proofing have worked on numerous Priceville Properties rental houses over many years and have always done a great job in a timely and satisfactory manner. We can highly recommend them.
I also want to mention the office team because they made the whole process much easier. Every time I got in touch they were friendly and easy to talk to, always got back to me quickly, and took the time to properly answer any questions I had. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, which really makes a difference when you're dealing with work on a new home.
Overall a really positive experience from start to finish and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them
Would not hesitate to highly recommend British dampproofing.
Matthew said that because of the damp Weavils were eating the damp wood hence the wood dust I had found on the carpet. The dampness he believed was due to polystrene wall insulation blocking the air bricks.
Most of the furniture was in the room at the time of his visit so he was limited in what he could appraise, but he said it looked like half of the floor would need to be replace as it was sinking and very spongey in the area by the window where the skirting damage could be seen. There was a wait period for the work to be carried out but a) I expected this as they carry out a lot of work and have to schedule things and I needed time to clear my books and bookshelves as I have a bad shoulder.
When the day arrived for the workme to come an =d commence the work, they found that it was worse than expected. The whole of the floor was starting to fail and the joists under the floor were damp and rotting badly. The whole floor would need doing. This meant that some units and shelving would need to be cleared and removed. The workmen kindly took them down and moved them into other rooms for me so they could do the necessary work.
The men who came to do the work were curteous and hard working. They took out the old flooring and joists, stopped anymore of the polystyrene beads falling through and blocking the vents by way of a sleave around the internal edge of the airbrick, Instaled new joists which they insulated with polymer foam where it touched brickwork to stop any damp reaching it. They then relayed the floor using MDF boarding and replaced the rotten skirting.
The job took 3 days to complete and they took away all of the old timbers and swept up before they went.
They made a good job and there is the peace of mind of a guarantee for the work done.
I would recommend them.
Obviously twice the work meant twice the cost, but with that comes the comfort of knowing that I'm not going to go into the room one day and find the units have fallen into the sub-floor area.
I'd have no hesitation in recommending them to any of my neighbours..
Work completed to high standard.
