Writer's Block: Going to Extremes

If you were in perfect shape (not to say that you aren't), what would be your extreme sport of choice?
one of 3 things :) there's a theme

1] ironman tri-athalons
2] mt. everest
3] south pole

hehe :)
#1 is atually achievable, and is on my 'bucket list' :)

Writer's Block: More Island Time

You're packing your bag for that other desert island—the one with no electricity—what 5 books do you take with you?
You are limiting me to **5**??? DAMN!

Bible
The complete works of WIlliam Shakespeare

Then, to suit the rules I'll strip the binding off the Sholan Alliance novels by Lisanne Norman and rebind them in one volume :)
Then I'll do the same to the New Frontier books by Peter David
Then the Gorkon Books by Keith R A DeCandido

that's pretty much the only way I'd survive. Each of those series I'd cobble are part of my mental floss books' series, those that are read/re-read periodically as they are such GOOD reads! :)

Writer's Block: Words to Live By

What is your personal motto or favorite quotation?
As readers of late in this journal have probably noted, my current, and WORKING, motto is:

"I do not have to like it, I just have to accept it!"
As in, I don't have to enjoy the machinations that change how things work in my life, I just have to accept it, adapt to it, whatever, because NOT accepting it isn't going to change anything for the better!

Political Meme

For those who know me, the graph behind the cut shouldn't be any real surprise, though I did think I'd be a bit further down in the lower left quadrant, but at least I'm in the one I thought I was. :)
back hereCollapse )

Another Inaugural post

One of the papers I venture to daily has an appropos cartoon for today. Please be heading over to Halifax Chronicle Herald and please be clicking on Bruce MacKinnon's cartoon :)

"Obama playlist strikes chord for Canada"

Since this is a day of profound celebration all across not only The United States of America, but all of North America, and the entire WORLD! :) I have decided to post the link to the 49 songs chosen by Canadians to grace Obama's playlist to help him get to know his northern neighbours a little better :)
There are some songs from all walks/genres, and some REAL cultural dynamos in the mix. There's a couple of which I'm not familiar, but for the most part, I've heard, and heartily agree with the inclusion of the rest.
So, without further adieu,
"Obama playlist strikes chord for Canada".
Read, google/listen, ENJOY! :)

Proud Canadian, and today a very proud North American & World citizen

Writer's Block: Tricky Questions

What is your first reaction when someone says "I need to talk to you"?

"Great! What did I do *this time*?"

Self-esteem issues? Nah! Whatever made you say that?

Writer's Block: Comfort Food

When times are tough or you're feeling down, what's the one food you can count on to make you feel better?

Oatmeal.
Yes, I know I'm supposed to be gluten-free, but Irish oats do NOT cause issues that I've noticed in the last 5 years! North American ones can sometimes. SO we keep a good supply of the Irish ones on hand! :) :) :)

Opinions required :)

Ain't *that* opening Pandora's Box :)

OK. This is obviously a Sprout question, so here's the obligatory cutCollapse )
This post is unlocked so that you can aim other folks you know to it, so that I can get opinions from folks not on my f-list. The only entries that will be screened are anonymous, but unless there is something offensive or similar, I'll be unscreening those as soon as I read them!

Please & Thanks :)

In the Midst of Winter, there *IS* Humour

Reading thru a bunch of stuff on my f-list today, and came across a gem!
Most knitters know of the Yarn Harlot - aka Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. Well she lives in Southern Ontario, Canada, a place with an OMINOUS headline for the upcoming days' weather: Get ready for snow-mageddon!
Today, Dec 18, 2008, she posted this tale of woe.
She has a very unique way of elucidating this incident that is not THAT uncommon in *winter*, let alone *winter* in Canada.
Read, Giggle, Laugh.
