What a fascinating film! GGR is a masterclass in acting, dialogue and character building. The film is 100ish minutes long and takes place nearly exclusively in either an office or a restaurant. There is no action. It relies solely on the dialogue to drive it forward and thanks to the tight writing and excellent acting of everyone involved, this never fails to enthrall.
The acting in particular was fantastic. Everybody involved, Ed Harris, Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey, Alan Arkin, Jonathan Pryce and Jack Lemmon all KILL IT. Especially Lemmon. God, he was brilliant. You felt sympathy for him despite him being a con-artist. He was brilliant. I didn't like Spacey's character but I feel like that was intended so he did a great job. Pacino was fantastic as was Harris. Pryce and Arkin had lesser roles but both did really well. To me though, the standout was the one scene that Alec Baldwin was in. His speech was delivered with conviction but also had bits of humour in it. It was brilliant.
Now, this won't be for everyone. Anyone looking for some edge-of-your-seat stuff will be disappointed. I also thought they barely touched on Lemmon's daughter and could've delved a little deeper there. Overall though, this was brilliant!
