A new couple struggles to adapt to their new married life together, especially as their home is a barge with two other crew members aboard. The acting is great and I like that the characters seem complex, their own personal desires and faults bringing conflict that ultimately must be set aside and/or forgiven for the community and true love to thrive.
A kind of fantastic mishmash of documentary, bizarre satirical sex comedy, propaganda and performance art this movie revels in showing it all as a fuck you against the social repressions that birth dangerous and violent people.
Based on the recorded minutes of the actual trial of Joan of Arc we witness how it is really a coercion for Joan to renounce her faith in herself and belief in her calling to aide a particular side in the 100 Years War. Patriarchal-steeped religion is used as the justification to execute her as the court of older religious male leaders take offense at her refusal to change out of her "male" clothes and attempt to trick or scare…

Looks great, very well crafted. Western civilization was built on the myth that honor and greatness can be earned with an astonishing feat or two (or maybe just by telling a good tale?), but it's always just bestowed upon by the powers that be. Greatness does not equal goodness. True honor takes surrender. Those last fifteen minutes really tie the movie together and Patel really brings it.
The more I think about this movie, the more I see it grappling with. I think it would definitely benefit from another watch.
