This year, I again kept the rewatching to a minimum, with the focus aimed toward catching up with horrors from my very lengthy watchlist. I I also put a focus on movies that I remember passing up time and time again while browsing the horror VHS sections at Coconuts and Video Connection when I was a kid. The ones that got away. No rules for my Hooptober, though.
I also rewatched a few list-outliers, too, that were maybe even more excellent this time. Panos Cosmatos’ Mandy (2018) and Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist (1982) blew my mind and shook me deeply once again, and the extremely underrated and very scary The Void (2016) was the best it’s been on this 4th viewing. Someday write-ups will come.…

Someday write-ups will come.
I also saw a few newer ones: I dug Ti West’s X prequel, Pearl, a good deal more than the former, kind of enjoyed the Marvel action-horror Werewolf by Night, totally enjoyed the very tense and surprising Barbarian (2022), and revisited the kind of okay Terrifier (2016) before catching its bloated and massively overrated sequel, Terrifier 2 (2022), which I did take the time to write about.
I had some high highs, and some very low lows, but this was a great and wild month of the strange, goofy, creepy & unexpected.
Happy Hooptober, y’all! Till next year… 🎃💀❤️
