HonestHermit’s review published on Letterboxd:
I’ve watched the first documentary in this trilogy and now this one and they’re both really interesting. I’ll be keeping an eye out for somewhere that has the second one available to watch. “In Search of Darkness 3” showcases straight-to-video and lesser known 80s horror movies with lots of behind the scenes anecdotes and info.
Interspersed throughout there were also short sections on related topics. Having been a kid in the 80s, I really enjoyed the nostalgia hit of the section on the early days of video rental stores and the section on the satanic panic. I have such fond memories of our local mom and pop video store where they definitely didn’t mind a gaggle of 12 year olds on a slumber party mission renting R rated horror movies. Not such fond memories of in depth questioning from my mother regarding my love of the Dungeons and Dragons Saturday morning cartoon or concern over my love of Stephen King.
The section titled “In Any Genre – Horror Lurks Everywhere” was really great, too. Showcasing horror elements hidden in other genres.
This film was a fun trip down memory lane and I’ll be adding quite a few movies to my watchlist! (Many of those I vividly remember the video cover, but didn’t watch at the time.) I would definitely recommend!
