A Corman Cocktail of exploitation—mixing a decent routine story with sleazed up sex, spaceship corridors, cool music, and goopy gore violence—resulting in high-end, low budget, late night trash... equal parts gross, funny, and creative with a production that puts on a “how to make Alien in twenty days” clinic.
Forbidden World knows exactly what it is: 77 minutes of endearing slimy space goop fun that made me add "Let's go bag ourselves a Dingwhopper!" to phrases I’d love to say in public one day.
Wait a minute this movie feels familiar...🤔
I mean, the characters in this movie clearly didn’t attend the premiere of Alien, because obviously it’s hidden inside the body. But first of all, I have to say I really respect how this B-masterpiece makes such damn good use of its budget. It actually looks surprisingly great, and that rawness really shows.
And of course this is light and extremely straightforward space corridor with a familiar story, and its campy heart is right where it belongs. It is entertaining for me precisely because it is aware of its own clichés in a way that’s easy to follow, but I have to say that the traditional over-explaining that happens in movies like this…
Lightly toss The Blob, Alien and Star Wars into a blender. Add a pinch of nudity and a splash of gore, hit frappe and you get Forbidden World.
It might taste a little funky but damn it’s satisfying.
"They said I was going home!"
At a research facility on a remote desert planet (Forbidden you might say!) A research team has created an experimental lifeform to solve the food crisis (and how the hell would that work??) However the lifeform becomes homicidal and starts killing off everything that gets in it's way! (oh shit! ... Indeed!)
"Why doesn't it just eat us and get it over with?"
In the first two minutes they manage to rip off (sorry I mean homage) Star Wars, Alien, Clockwork Orange and Debbie does Space just for good measure and judging by the set that's made up of painted egg boxes and takeaway trays the whole budget must have gone on burgers n…
I am still curled up in front of my television, watching Alien-inspired schlock. Italians do make great lowbudget sci-fi, but sometimes Roger Corman does it better.
“Welcome to the Garden of Eden. We play God here.” - Dr. Cal Timbergen
This Roger Corman produced Alien rip-off is one of my personal favorite comfort midnight movies. It has a cool atmosphere, nice leftover sets from Galaxy of Terror (designed by Jim Cameron), a funky soundtrack, sex, plenty of nudity, blood, gore, slime and some decent Monster-and special effects. All perfectly served in a neat under 80 minute’s package. Seriously, what’s not to love for a fans of B-movie horror and science fiction exploitation? I even like the cast, the over-the-top performances and the cheesy writing here. It all fits very well into this particular kind of movie.
Naturally, this is not high art, but it is fun…
"Doctor, I wouldn't know a gene from a jellybean."
Commander Mike Colby is awoken from stasis by his robot sidekick when the ship is attacked by bandits looking for food. After defeating the threat he is told that he must follow a new set of orders to investigate an experimental hostile lifeform on the planet Xarbia. Xarbia is used as a research outpost for experiments deemed too dangerous for colonized worlds. Here they have been splicing "proto B", a prototype DNA stand, into living organisms with great success in growth that could help solve the food shortage in the galaxy. This time they spliced "proto B" to something much more dangerous and now it threatens all life as we know…
"Forbidden World" is a ridiculously over-the-top, gory Sci-Fi/Horror B-movie coming from the 'low budget, quick turnover' school of Roger Corman (who also acts as a producer). Allan Holzman directs this pulpy exploitation movie with gleeful vigour.
"Forbidden World" sees a federation marshal ordered to investigate a research lab on a distant planet where an experiment has gone awry. The experiment in question is a mutated organism that has escaped and is killing off the resident scientists. If the basic outline sounds familiar, it should. It borrows a lot of elements from other genre pictures, most notably "The Thing," which came out in the same year. However, it puts its own spin on the genre, which keeps the story feeling fresh.…
leave it to Roger Corman to watch Alien and decide that what it was missing was rampant nudity and to Jim Wynorski to help bring that horny fantasy to screen — tasteless trash but I’m certainly not above it
Nice little Alien rip off sleaze-fest but goddammit Tracy enough with the screaming already!
Man, is Forbidden World the best Alien rip-off or just the most delightfully trashy and sleazy? I mean, how many other movies would make sure their distant space science outposts had sizable spas? Or Dawn Dunlap to prowl around in her skivvies? Or Fox Harris (Repo Man - took me a second to place the voice) to make things extra weird. Boobs, gore, lasers, robots, monsters - this has got it all in a tight 77 minute Corman package.
Alien rip-offs ranked here.
