Spooktober IV: Morte all'italiana

A movie that doesn't try to conceal the fact that it's trying to rip off Alien, even if all they really do is use the Burstchester scene as the alien's method of killing its hosts. The rest of the movie is an amalgamation of other tropes in the genre.

Now, the real star of the movie, and what definitely makes this worth checking out, is hands down the incredibly bloody and gory fun stuff in it. The actual makeup work, but especially on the burstchester, as well as the creature design in the end, is repulsively fantastic. Another “Video Nasty” that I never saw but always wanted to.

I must say… what a ridiculous film. Instead of aliens laying an egg that leads to a baby alien bursting out of your chest… simply being hit with alien slime will make your chest cavity explode. Ok.

Arrow Films put out a wonderful Blu-ray package. Fantastic extras.

"Contamination" ist ein must-see für alle Fans von Trash-Horrorfilmen oder für Menschen, die nicht alltäglichen Horror mögen. Der Film beginnt mit einem Schiff, das scheinbar verlassen im Hafen von New York treibt. Die ausgesandten Wissenschaftler entdecken im Bauch des Schiffes Kaffeekisten, die mit grünen Eiern in der Größe von Fußbällen gefüllt sind. Sie finden auch die verstümmelten Überreste der Besatzung und entdecken bald den Grund dafür: Die grünen Eier explodieren, wenn sie gestört werden, und versprühen einen zähflüssigen, ätzenden Schlamm, der Körper sofort von innen explodieren lässt.

Die Handlung nimmt eine völlig absurde Wendung, als das Militär eine Verbindung zu einer kürzlich gescheiterten Marsmission herstellt und wir auf einer kolumbianischen Kaffeeplantage landen, wo eine heimtückische Verschwörung im Gange…

Horroroktober die Siebzehnte (17/4) feat. DuBFal-Horrorweeks - 3rd Round - Film Nr. 17

Böse Zungen die alles andere als die Unwahrheit sagen, würden „Astaron - Brut des Schreckens“ wie folgt beschreiben und eigentlich stückweise auch diesen sehr charmanten Science-Fiction-Horrorfilm auf das herunterbrechen:

Alien und ihre Eier die aussehen wie eine riesige Avocado-Maracuja mit ihrer Alien-Mutter oder -Vater als einäugiger Tintenfisch in Menschengröße.

Hinter dieser wenig für ihn sprechenden Zusammenfassung, verbirgt sich ein doch relativ origineller Film der genau an diesem einen Punkt sich bei mir aus der LB-Durchschnittsbewertung von 2,6 zu einer 3 von 5 samt Herzchen erhebt. Help! Let me out! There's an egg!

Luigi Cozzi's CONTAMINATION is another film that somehow found itself on the Video Nasties list that Colombia drug dealers partly funded according to Cozzi. There are moments of gore like guts exploding out of bodies, rats exploding, and gooey slime-covered eggs but nothing extreme enough to justify being placed on that particular list - then again I seem to say that every time I watch one of the films deemed a video nasty!

The most extreme thing about this might be the blatant plagiarism or the god-awful rubber Cyclops monster in the film's finale. It might sound like I am shitting on this entire thing, but I'm not. I enjoy these cheap Italian…

Everyone else seems to be watching this one at the moment for some reason so I figured I may aswell dust off my old Blue Underground DVD and give it another go. Luigi Cozzi's Contamination is an Alien rip off that uses the basic plot outline from Lucio Fulci's Zombie. The film borrows moat of its ideas but there are some original ones too - the singing eggs always crack me up (har har) and I love how this film depicts Mars! (having it all red is way too obvious).
