i had no idea what this movie was about going in, just that it was supposed to be bad. but

a sci fi/fantasy melodramatic video game simulation thriller about fishing is *not* what i expected.

never in my wildest dreams could i have imagined that that's what this film would be about. i also had no idea what was going on the ENTIRE runtime. the plot was so confusing like honestly one of the most confusing films i've ever seen. the only good parts of this movie were the butt shots of matthew mcconaughey and that's just facts. i thought everybody was exaggerating with how bad this movie is, but i can confirm that they were not. this was like watching the old man and the sea except it was creepy and weird and made no sense. the script was atrocious, the plot was absurd, the acting was downright laughable, and the movie is way too long for its own good. it's just a bad time all around. this movie is meaningless and pointless, and if you haven't seen it you shouldn't waste your breath. i am glad that i got to hate-watch this with jack though, as that was the only thing that made it bearable at all lol.

okay but in all seriousness.. criterion release when?!
