This is definitely winning best music in a documentary, or at least I hope it is. The Inuit throat singing is really interesting. Likewise, it's subject, Aaju Peter is a really interesting person as an Indigenous activist, lawyer and as a mother. But unfortunately I'm not surprised to see it wasn't nominated for editing or cinematography, because well, this documentary isn't great on either of those fronts.
It's a documentary that relies on the person it's telling the story about. In fact, there's really a lack of focus or intent here. Probably doesn't help that it was directed by literally one of her colonizers, which Aaju Peter herself mentions with those exact words. But I don't find it surprising that everything here is surface level and meanders from moment to moment. I feel if it was directed by someone Indigenous or someone closer to Aaju, it would've got more from her, her community, and their focus.
