I'm sorry to say that this one just didn't quite click with me. Don't get me wrong..it's excellently made. The score is fantastic, the use of lighting and shadows helps create tension and the camerawork is really unique as well which helps with the atmosphere of the film...exploring the unknown. I just couldn't get into the pacing of the story.
I found the first 20-30 minutes really boring. Like, why should I give a shit about the boyfriend when he comes across as a dick? Once things started happening, then the mystery was really well done...well, it shows at the start what's causing it but watching the characters figure it out was interesting. Then they just started repeating the same shit over again and I got really bored. Donald Sutherland's character was a bit of a dumbass as well which didn't help.
Once the third act kicked in though...holy shit. That third act was amazing. Edge of your seat stuff! Constantly wondering how the protagonists were going to get out of this situation was quite terrifying really. I loved the ending as well! I thought that was really well done.
I will say that I really think the characters needed some depth to them as that would've helped all the more.
Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood to truly appreciate this...it was good but I was expecting true greatness.
