► Master List || Discord || May Scavenger Hunt Host Raffle
First of all, a big shoutout & thank you to Codytunesin for hosting last month's Scavenger Hunt! It's the first Scavenger Hunt in a while that I participated in and I had a great time! (despite not finishing it 😅)
I've been doing Scavenger Hunts here and there since 2024, and there was a time where I'd enter the raffle every month, but I stopped doing that and now I just enter once a year (specifically for the month of April).. so I did not expect to ever host one of these, but here we are! I'm also not the most creative when it comes to prompts, but I think they turned out okay.
I've linked a list for a lot of the prompts because I personally love it when hosts do this, it makes finding films for said prompts a bit easier, but you of course don't have to use those lists if it's not specified :)
► How to participate: (I partially stole this from Codytunesin)
Create your own list of 30 films, choosing one film for each day of the month based on the prompts listed below. After you're done making your list, make sure to tag it with "scavenger hunt 133" and then feel free to share your list in the comment section! If you have any questions, feel free to ask them below or on the Scavenger Hunt Discord server! You can also find more info in the Master List linked above.
Happy hunting!
► Prompts:
1. Happy April Fools Day! Watching a nice, fun, absurdist comedy film sounds like a good way to start the month.
Watch an absurdist comedy film.
2. Yup, it's another day prompt. Today is World Autism Awareness Day. I'll leave the prompt open to interpretation, but here's some potentially useful lists that I found: One, two, three.
Watch a film with an autistic or autistic-coded character.
3. I think a lot of us have way too many films on our watchlist so we might as well tick one off here.
Shuffle your watchlist and pick a film to watch from the first row. If you for whatever reason don't keep a watchlist: shuffle mine instead.
4. Sprinkling some facts about me in here, because I love seeing those in other people's hunts. So, I'm Dutch and I was born in the Netherlands, and have lived here all my life. Now, I don't want to subject you to just Dutch films because no one deserves that. Instead I looked at the country page for the Netherlands on here, and there's some pretty good films on there that were produced by Dutch companies, so we'll just go with that instead.
Watch a film produced by the Netherlands.
5. I met Maciej on the Scavenger Hunt discord (which you should absolutely join!) and he quickly became a good friend of mine. I've always said that if I were to host I'd have a Despicable Me/Minion-related prompt in honor of him and our weird obsession with using Minion gifs. Without further ado..
Watch a film starring someone who voiced a character in the Despicable Me/Minions franchise.
6. A lot of hosts do a favorite actor/actress prompt, so I'll give you some of my favorite actresses. I'll limit it to 3 but I could honestly keep going for a while. #1 - Audrey Hepburn, my favorite actress of all time. I first saw her in How To Steal A Million and was just completely blown away by how charming and talented she was. She was also just an incredibly cool human being, with a very impressive life story that involves the Netherlands! #2 - Rachel Zegler, my favorite living actress. I think she is a generational talent, and she has the voice of an angel. She's also a very cool, charming & lovely human being that doesn't deserve any of the hate she's getting. #3 - Brittany Murphy, is more of a newly added favorite. I've been getting into more and more of her films lately, and I just love seeing her in films. She's just always so fun in her films, and she seemed like such a ray of sunshine.
Watch a film starring Audrey Hepburn, Rachel Zegler or Brittany Murphy.
7. Naturally, this also calls for a favorite director one. La La Land has been my favorite film since seeing it for the first time over 5 years ago, and a huge part of that is due to Damien Chazelle's directing. I've also been a Babylon truther since day 1, which pretty much rotates in and out of my top 4. I remember seeing it in an empty theater, and ugh it deserved so much better! Martin Scorsese I think is a pretty obvious one, the guy just makes such great films, and somehow manages to never make 3+ hour films feel boring. William Wyler I think is a more underappreciated director, and I definitely have to watch more of his stuff but I just really love his collaborations with Audrey Hepburn. (Roman Holiday is in my top 4 for a reason!). Yes, there is a lack of women directors here, I just really need to watch more women-directed films 😳 but I'm working on it! (Also someone get Kelly Fremon Craig to make another film! she has the potential to be on here)
Watch a film directed by Damien Chazelle, Martin Scorsese or William Wyler.
8. Speaking of movie theaters, I'm very grateful to have a cool older sister that is willing to go see films in a movie theater with me. I think we've been going to the movies together since 2016 or something, but we've ramped it up a lot in recent years because of a new movie theater with an unlimited subscription opening here and we try to see at least 1 a week.
Watch a film that I've seen in a movie theater.
9. Continuing the sibling topic:
Watch a film that focuses on the bond between siblings.
10. One of my favorite things about Letterboxd is going through other people's lists to discover new films. They're just such a great way to find more films like the one you just watched, but I also just love going through lists with a bunch of comfort films on them and watching one of those, and honestly.. I think we could all use a nice comfy film to watch.
Watch a film from the "comfort movies" list, or the "Women have superior taste that is why these masterpieces are called chick flicks" list.
11. Another list I found on here is a list with a bunch of Steampunk films and I just loooooove the whole Steampunk aesthetic, especially in games that have it. I'm also really just throwing this in for myself because I've been meaning to watch more of these.
Watch a Steampunk film.
12. I grew up playing & watching a lot of football (or soccer, for those who call it that), but in the more recent years I've been getting really into watching figure skating. I'd always come across videos of people figure skating to some of my favorite songs and it's just so cool & beautiful. I made it a goal to watch it at the Olympics this year, and I did! It was very cool to watch that live, and now I'm also obsessed with Alysa Liu just like everyone else on Earth basically. (and Amber Glenn, she's very cool too.)
Watch a figure skating film.
13. My music taste is a bit all over the place, and I wouldn't really know how to do a prompt for that specifically, but I've been a massive fan of Olivia Rodrigo's since Drivers License dropped in 2021, and I also just really admire her activism and her outspokenness. I was originally looking for films that feature her songs, but I couldn't really find a good amount of films so you can pick a film that she has seen instead.
Watch a film that Olivia Rodrigo has watched.
14. I'm also a huge gamer! Been playing them all my life, and I don't think I'll ever stop playing them. (Currently very addicted to Slay The Spire 2). In terms of film adaptations of video games, we haven't exactly had the best luck.. but there's still some decent/good ones out there that are worth checking out.
Watch a film based on a video game.
15. Earlier in these prompts I mentioned seeing La La Land for the first time, and ever since that I've been obsessed with watching musicals. They're always such a good time, so of course I have to have a musical prompt in here too.
Watch a musical film.
16. I'm terrible at keeping up with challenges, and I end up abandoning some of them, but I do still love participating in them because making lists is fun! One challenge I'm doing and haven't abandoned this year is COMEDYx52, because I absolutely love to watch comedy films!
Pick a prompt from the COMEDYx52(026) challenge, and pick a film for it to watch. If you're also taking part in that challenge, then just watch one of the films you picked for it.
17. I think I'm more of a film person overall, but when a tv show clicks for me I will binge the hell out of it. One of the shows I did that with, and has been one of my favorites for a while now is, Community. I've seen it like 3 or 4 times now and it never fails to entertain me. It also references A LOT of films, so naturally this makes for a great prompt.
Watch a film referenced in Community.
18. Another fact about me is that I'm a cat person, and I've been one ever since getting 2 cats at the age of 8. We at one point had 5 cats total, but I live on my own with 2 cats now and I love them very much!
Watch a film that features cats.
19. Another list on Letterboxd that I love to grab a suggestion from is the visually insane list. I just love it when a film has crazy visuals.
Watch a film from the visually insane list.
20. It's my birthday! or well.. it would be if you're watching these in order and watching one a day. I share a birthday with some pretty.. interesting? people, but I'm also interested in who you share a birthday with!
Watch a film starring someone that you share a birthday with.
21. On the topic of my birthday, I was born in 1999.. which makes me 27 now. But, I also think 1999 was a fantastic year for film, so why don't we watch one from that year?
Watch a film released in 1999.
22. Happy earth day!
Watch a film where the environment or climate change is relevant to the plot.
23. Like many others on here, I collect physical media. I'm sure many of us have films that we own that we haven't actually watched yet.. and if not you can pick something from one of my lists. :)
Watch a film you own physically but haven't seen yet, or watch a film from one of my physical media lists: dvd, 4k/bluray, criterion
24. I've also recently started purchasing comic books, which unfortunately is another expensive hobby but they are very cool and I'm currently reading through Absolute Wonder Woman vol. 1!
Watch a film based on a comic book or a graphic novel.
25. I love me a good psychological thriller. I watched Split a few years ago and I've been obsessed with the genre ever since.
Watch a psychological thriller.
26. I also absolutely love films where the protagonist keeps messing up, and keeps getting themselves into deeper and deeper shit. I couldn't find a super up-to-date list, but I think the one I linked has plenty of good options.
Watch a film where the protagonist keeps messing up, and getting themselves into deeper shit.
27. There was a time where I listened to podcasts quite often, I still do here and there, but not quite as often. One podcast I still enjoy listening to from time to time is The Rewatchables.
Watch a film covered on the Rewatchables podcast.
28. When I still lived with my mom, I would sometimes come downstairs, and she would be watching a film and I'd look at her monitor and just think "what the hell are you watching.", as much as I'd love to ask her what those films were or what her favorites were, she passed away 2 years ago, but I think B-movies are probably the closest match to what I would see.
Watch a B-movie.
29. One thing I wish still existed today, is three-strip Technicolor. I get why it's not a thing anymore, but god.. it always looks so damn beautiful. (Yup.. this accidentally ended up being a duplicate prompt of last month's scavenger hunt, my bad 😅)
Watch a film shot in three-strip Technicolor.
30. Lastly, I'd like to end the month with a simple somewhat "watch whatever you want" prompt.
Watch a film you've been meaning to watch, but just haven't gotten around to yet.
I personally always appreciate substitute prompts, so here are some:
- Watch a film from the visually insane list.
- Watch a film directed by a woman.
- Watch a film from the "comfort movies" list
- Watch a film from the "Women have superior taste that is why these masterpieces are called chick flicks" list.
- Watch a film from my favorites list.
