Hooptober 11: #11
[Criteria: 8/9 films from a franchise, ALIEN]

Something that really stuck with me about Scott's Alien was this deeply unsettling and eerie mythos that surrounded the Xenomorphs and their origins. The Derelict especially has some of the most chilling images from the movie, the set design inside the derelict is honestly one of my fav things from the entire series. The fossilised structure of the Space Jockey and the eggs surrounded it all is such a great introduction this world of horrors that is almost never seen in the series since. Until Prometheus. All the wonderfully creepy set design makes its way back with Scott helming the series once again, and along with that comes all of the charms (and flaws, oh there are flaws but it didn't affect me much) of his filmmaking. I fucking loved how beautiful the mythos of Alien is furthered in this movie and man do I love how Scott plays with the concept. Fassbinder is excellent as the unsettling David, and all the shenanigans he does is really something to behold. I know things don't exactly line up with established canon but the franchise was never really interested in the continuity anyway so it really didn't bother me much and even contributed to my enjoyment of this movie. Though far from perfect, this is easily one of the better movies of the franchise and I hadn't had this much fun with it since Aliens.
