For the longest time, I had stopped myself from checking out the movies beyond Aliens because of the amount of hate I'd heard for them, and it did put me off the franchise altogether. The people weren't wholly wrong but I never realised I would have so much fun with this sci-fi horror franchise whose mythmaking is just right up my alley. Very inconsistent but also quite rewarding.
