Rewatch List | ⛩️ Essential Horror
This is proper horror. It's been a while since something worked on me like this. The Descent is one of the best survival horror films I've seen. It's absolute top of the pack, and that was my impression both on my first watch two years ago and this rewatch.
Hereditary landed two jump scares a few days ago; nothing high impact. More like a flinch scare. The Conjuring had no effect on me. This film landed about five to seven high impact jump scares on me, and that is not even the essential part, because they are earned. The cave shit is terrifying enough by itself. I was so surprised that is still possible.
The craftsmanship here is great; the first thing I noticed was how wonderful it was to see something shot on film. There is digital grading, but it is not noticeable. The film looks right. Pacing is perfect; it never drags. And it's a lovely rewatch because there are so many details that were gone from my mind.
I unequivocally insist you watch this. You will not forget it. What a great experience.
