We're back, folks! Its time for the 6th Annual Letterboxd Season Challenge!
For the uninitiated, the Letterboxd Season Challenge is a 33 week long challenge where the goal each week is to watch a previously unseen feature length film from a specified category. And though they are in chronological order, you are free to follow along or watch them in any order at your leisure. Start whenever, finish whenever! You are also welcome to watch multiple films per each week/theme if you so choose. You can find the weekly challenges by reading the notes of this list.
The idea of this challenge is to push you to check out films you may not have otherwise, or to give you that little kick that's sometimes needed to watch a film you've been meaning to check out but just haven't yet.
Super excited to get this thing rolling again! I always love curating and watching all of these challenges, and have appreciated the support and excitement for this year's. So, whether this is your first or sixth (if you've been around for all six, please let me know!) I hope you enjoy this mishmash of film experiences!
This year, I've added a new type of challenge for a few of the weeks. You'll notice that some are marked as a "This or That". What this means is, for the denoted week, you are able to choose between a film that fits the theme OR you can watch a single film specified for that week. These sole films range in quality and genre, so choose wisely. I would recommend that if you have already seen the optional film of a week, try to stick to the theme of said week (or save it for the optional bonus below). But I'm not your boss, so watch how you wanna watch.
In lieu of the bonus challenges that were included for last year's 5th anniversary, you can take an optional bonus challenge of watching both This or That films for all of the weeks that apply (one that fits the theme AND the single film option). Note: this does not have to be done in the same week, but it does include rewatching the single film option if you've already seen it prior to the Challenge.
Make sure to post your list in the comments once you've created them. You are not beholden to your original selections. You can swap out or mix and match any films you want as long as they fit the categories. And if ever you find that you've seen all applicable films for a specific week, comment down below and I'll offer up an alternative.
And don't forget to tag all lists and reviews with "letterboxd season challenge" and "lsc6"!
