I feel somewhat cheated by this film. I picked up the DVD from a charity shop a few months back, firstly because I had no cash on me and had to purchase another title to reach the £1 card payment minimum, but I ended up choosing it simply because of Brad Dourif's name on the cover. Dourif's one of those actors who's entertaining no matter the quality of the film so I figured it was a safe bet (well that theory paid off when I took a punt on Sworn to Justice). Well guess what, he's barely in it despite being top billed!
This is a 90s DTV sci-fi movie after all and I'm kind of getting sick of these…
Brad Dourif just doesn't get the gigs he deserves for the quality of actor he is.
This is okay, though a bit muddled and dull at times: a very mid 90s TV movie that somehow scored both Billy Drago and Brad Dourif. It basically combines Bladerunner (William Sanderson is even in this as an Android) with dashes of Robocop and Escape From New York. It's not bad, it tries to rise above its station and even has a glimpse of boobs. Worth a watch.
All the X-Men, in the order they joined: 18th. Phoenix Force. X-Men #101 (October 1976)
A daft sci-fi film with less of a budget than they give you for lunch if you are on jury duty, Phoenix thinks it's telling the tale of a specialist army unit who infiltrate a colony to rid it of androids, but by opening with at least three women getting shot in their breasts is actually telling a very different type of story (a few minutes later, a woman is slapped and punched, and the attitude towards women throughout is not great).
Sadly, the only other memorable thing about Phoenix is that it showcases the worst acting I've ever seen from Brad Dourif, and it…
Occasionally the dialogue and acting are so bad it's funny, but mostly this is just bad. Brad Dourif at least always manages to compel me, but otherwise, this is 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
Do you know how hard it is being a leland orser filmography completionist????? Reasonably ):
You can try and hide a Two Star DTV Special being what it is by putting Brad Dourif and Leland Orser in it, but sometimes it's still just a Two Star DTV Special.
Terrible/hammy/fun Sci Fi space/android/laser pistol/cheeze and what a cast! William Sanderson! Brad Douriff! Produced by Billy Drago.
With William Sanderson, Brad Dourif, and Leland Orser in the cast I thought I might be striking hidden gold here. Instead I found a ripoff of Blade Runner and Aliens made for about $11.
