Sci-Fi Original movie sees a standoff between outlaws (fronted by Billy Drago) and a mysterious stranger (Flight of the Intruder's Brad Johnson) interrupted by a legion of snakes overtaking a small western town.
Both Drago and the giant snake used in the poster are barely in Copperhead, acting as bookends. Though there are few recognizable character actors, Johnson still adds a movie star polish to the proceedings. The snakes are extremely digital, like most Sci-Fi Original Movies it is more corny humorous than straight horror. After cutting his teeth on 2nd units, Todor Chapkanov makes his directorial debut - creating a likeable group of disaster victims and maintaining as much tension as is possible in film of this type. Snakes on the Plain
This is your standard SyFy monster movie of the week but with the added bonus for being set in the Wild West. It does a really decent job of setting up the Wild West setting. There is a real attention to detail that you wouldn’t expect from a movie like this. Sure the setting looks like somebody let a bunch of snakes loose in Buckskin Joe but for the budget it looks pretty good. The outfits, the guns, there is more effort put into this one than you’d expect. The acting is your standard set of SyFy movie of the week talent. You have Brad Johnson as the hero, he does a good job as the…
In the mid-2000's when I was still in junior high school I made a habit of watching Sci Fi original films even though I knew they were schlocky B-Monster movies with bad acting and low-budget special effects. This film is no exception, but after watching back in 08' I distinctly remember thinking this film stank noticeably less than the other Sci Fi original films I had seen which include Frankenfish, Komodo vs. Cobra, Grendel, Rock Monster, & Fire and Ice: The Dragon Chronicles. The plot covers a western town being overrun by a swarm of copperhead snakes with the locals trying to repel them since they are unable to escape. Watch it at your own risk.
This one is a good time for sure. The first act is a respectable Western with Billy Drago playing a great bad guy and Brad Johnson the quiet drifter, but it all switches up when the CG snakes arrive.
And boy do they arrive! The townsfolk (including a blacksmith with strong Australian accent in the wild west) and bad guys alike team up to take down an army of copperheads with guns, machetes, Gatling guns and flamethrowers, but not all snakes come in the same size.
One of the letterboxd reviews calls this "Snakes on the Plains" - I raise my sippin' whiskey to that one.
Snake western. Snakes cause panic in a small Wild West town.
This SyFy production is lame. The digital snakes look like toys and they don't show up often.
A fairly entertaining wild-west killer snake film, as outlaws, gunslingers, and townsfolk all band together to survive a swarm of killer snakes descending on a small town.
This film is a cheap SYFY TV movie, but it's not too bad as the characters are okay, the story moves pretty fast, and there is plenty of action to keep things entertaining. Brad Johnson pulls off the lone gunslinger role pretty well, and the rest of the cast do a fairly decent job. It's a shame that Billy Drago didn't stick around for long though, but overall I thought this was a reasonable enough Western adventure creature-feature.
This intense western SYFY movie delivers all the action that men and reptile had ever fought. It has amazing characters and the snakes themselves were freaky and intersting as the slithering vermits began to take over the small, deserted town. The ultimate killers are always the cold-blooded. Watch it!
