Snakes on the Plain

This is your standard SyFy monster movie of the week but with the added bonus for being set in the Wild West. It does a really decent job of setting up the Wild West setting. There is a real attention to detail that you wouldn’t expect from a movie like this. Sure the setting looks like somebody let a bunch of snakes loose in Buckskin Joe but for the budget it looks pretty good. The outfits, the guns, there is more effort put into this one than you’d expect. The acting is your standard set of SyFy movie of the week talent. You have Brad Johnson as the hero, he does a good job as the heroic gunslinger. Billy Drago gets a small appearance in. 15 years after Brisco County Jr he proves he can still play a good western baddie. The rest are what you’d expect, plus being shot in Bulgaria a lot of the background characters sound like they are from Sofia rather than Santa Fe but hey you go where you can get more bang for your buck. The snakes looks hilarious, real PS1 graphics here especially the big final snake looks like he escaped from the attic of Resident Evil 1. Again, this is a SyFy movie of the week it isn’t going to ring up Stan Winston for a giant snake. It works pretty well, it has a solid story with a real well done western setting that makes it a more notable entry into the SyFy monster movie of the week world.
