Around this time last year, there were only about 10 horror films out of some 400 or so total films on my Letterboxd. Out of those, only one or two were supernatural horror (you know, ghosts and shit), the kind of horror that genuinely freaks me out and hence I usually avoided. Around this time last year, there were only about 10 horror films out of some 400 or so total films on my Letterboxd. Out of those, only one or two were supernatural horror (you know, ghosts and shit), the kind of horror that genuinely freaks me out and hence I usually avoided. Many times I sat down to watch a supernatural horror film, and each time I couldn't finish it.
But despite my genuine fear of horror films, I took part in Hoop-tober 3.0 and Hayley's Spooky 2k16 Challenge so that I could finally get 'round to watching great films from this genre. At the time of writing this, there are now 60 horror films on my Letterboxd, so it's fair to say I am no longer a horror virgin. Also, I must admit that period of time (between mid-October and early November), was one of the most memorable time of my life in terms of watching movies. It's only been a year, but I already feel nostalgic thinking about it.
I am very excited about doing Hoop-tober again, and my focus will once again be on watching the classics and 'essentials' of this genre - many of which I missed last year due to a lack of time - along with some more recent films. I only managed 15 out of 33 films last time around but watched 7 more of those in the following months. I am again targeting 33 films this time, just to keep things consistent.
