I hate to say it because I love John Carpenter but I can't help but feel disappointed with The Fog. It's my own fault as I hyped this one up a lot in my head, and it was never bad persay but I just found the first two-thirds of the film unenjoyable and uninteresting, the latter of which I have never said about a Carpenter film. Hell, even Ghosts of Mars was entertaining as hell.

This was still made very well; there was great cinematography, some good jump-scares that didn't feel cheap, and of course, a solid score, which seemingly comes hand-in-hand with a Carpenter film. I love how the lighthouse foghorn was used within the score. That was a really nice touch.

Now, As I said, the first two-thirds of the film are very slow. I wouldn't mind this so much if they built up some characters but they don't. It's pretty much just us waiting for shit to go down. But when it does go down, by fuck does it go down! The final 30 minutes of this are bonkers, real edge-of-your-seat stuff and the only reason this isn't in last place on my Carpenter rankings. Honestly, that final act is brilliant.

Overall, this is the Carpenter effort that I am least likely to revisit, but I seem to be in the minority on my thoughts, so if you haven't seen it, I would definitely recommend you check it out at least once.
