Pros:

We loved everything about Mercure. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was outstanding, so much more than we were expecting. The bed extremely comfy and a fantastic shower.
The breakfast was lovely and a good selection.
Parking was available, which is always a bonus. As well as leisure facilities, which we didn't get to use this time, but my husband has already booked for us to stay at Mercure again in June.

Cons:

We couldn't fault anything about Mercure.

Cons:

the breakfast was average

A very disappointing stay
Pros:

Hmm, difficult one as the room had so many problems with it but we only stayed one night. We would have changed hotels anyway if we had booked for longer.

On the positive, the reception staff were pleasant.

Cons:

We were upgraded to a suite but I dread to think what the standard double would have been like!

On entering, the light to the ‘lounge’ in our suite was flickering and couldn’t stop it so we just had to turn it off.

The sink didn’t turn on and off properly and took ages to warm up and when it did, it became too hot!

The room was cold but I was too tired to get up in the middle of the night to look for a spare blanket if there was one.

In the morning, my husband had a shower and warned me the shower tray was overflowing as it must have been blocked! The same thing happened to me and the water spilled out on the floor!

Also, we didn’t realise the car park did not belong to the hotel so we had to pay for it, it also didn’t look very secure. We removed everything from our car in case of break ins.

Would not recommend!!!!
Pros:

Its location was good in regards to where I needed to stay. Good parking options. Check in was good. Lunch in the restaurant was good.

Cons:

My suite was dirty in places with marks all over the upholstery. Very noticeable stains to curtains and a chair in the main bedroom area. Net curtains broke and were hanging down.
There was lots of mildew in the bathroom above the shower.
As a parent booing to stay with children in a family suite, we were placed directly above the function room which had an even on all evening and also the following morning. The noise was so loud I could hear every word from each song played. Once the music finally stopped in the early hours, the air-con unit began to randomly and spontaneously make noises even though we hadn’t used it. Barely had any sleep at all.
A week later, I’m still awaiting to hear back about my complaint. Very poor customer service.

4* Price, 1* room and service
Pros:

After getting checked in by a not very helpful member of staff and paying the car parking charge we made our way up to our room via the stairs as one of the lifts was out of service and was a big queue for the other one.

We entered the tiny room that you get provided, checked out the bathroom and it was grim, full of mould looks like someone had peed in the shower and just generally untidy.

Went back to reception lugging all our stuff back down the stairs to ask for a new room, was met with the same unhelpful staff member who didn’t even seem like she wanted to change our room until the other staff member stepped in and said to change the room.

New room wasn’t the best either with some staining on the curtains which I don’t even want to think what it was and a shower which you had to turn off 4 times throughout the shower to let it drain, but we couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of going back down so put up with it.

The rooms look very tired and are very small definitely not what you expect from a 4* hotel I assume they only get that rating from the rest of the facilities they provide?

Went downstairs to grab our free drink we got given for the problem with the room to be met by a woman on the bar who clearly didn’t want to be in work that day with the reception we got from her!

Next morning we got woke up by drums coming from downstairs not sure what was going on, but the rooms are no where near noise proof at all so I recommend bringing some earplugs because you can hear everything from outside your room.

Overall a very disappointed experience from a hotel that we were looking forward to enjoying based on the 4* rating.
