A diagnosis. A betrayal. A layoff. A phone call with news you can hardly believe is true. The life you were counting on will never be.
And you wonder, where is God?
Gideon, an unlikely hero in the Old Testament, wasn’t afraid to ask the hard question, “If the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us?”
Maybe you’re there.

Bob Page
Bob Page is a retired Air Force brigadier general with decades of experience as a chaplain and pastor. With wisdom and a warm writing style, Bob’s heart for the wounded, the discouraged, the fallen, and the one who feels unseen shines through each chapter. His signature humor shows up in heartwarming stories that bring light to biblical truth and point you toward hope.
Bob says he won the lottery when he turned eighteen and got his selective service draft number that required him to do military service. It was an unexpected turn that felt like a huge detour from the future he had planned. Yet, it was on that detour that God introduced him to the love of his life and his life’s work.
Bob met Ruth at Loring Air Force Base, Maine. He was there from LSU for ROTC field training. She was there from Clemson University with her family for the summer working as a student nurse in a local hospital. He was nineteen. She was a few months younger. After attending a chapel service where Ruth’s dad was a chaplain, Ruth’s mother invited Bob to their home for Sunday lunch. Before they parted ways that day, Bob and Ruth tore a chapel bulletin in half to exchange mailing addresses, promising to send postcards to each other when they returned to their schools in the fall. After more than 50 years of marriage, Bob and Ruth still have those pieces of the chapel bulletin and the two Tiger postcards. They live near their two married daughters and sons-in-law. They are amazed daily by their five grandchildren.
The Study Guide
The God Is Still For You study guide is designed to accompany you as you work through the book. This isn’t a quick-fix guide or a collection of spiritual platitudes. In the study guide you will find:
Honest Engagement with Hard Questions
We won’t skirt around the complex realities of pain, loss, and doubt. Instead, we’ll face them head-on with both compassion and biblical truth. Helpful chapter summaries will highlight key teachings as we encounter truth from God’s Word and seek to apply it to our lives.
Real Stories, Real Hope
Along with biblical truth, you’ll also encounter real-life stories that will intersect with your own struggles and point you toward authentic hope. Questions are provided at the end of each chapter to help you go deeper in your personal reflection on the Bible verses and stories that impacted you.
Practical Application
At the end of each chapter, you’ll find a recommended song from the God Is Still for You playlist* designed to provide a place to think deeply about the truth that God is still for you even in your present circumstances, to pray, and to listen for God’s voice.
Small Group Discussions
In addition to reflection questions, questions are provided for group use. A key message of God Is Still for You is that hope is a team sport. Use the questions to help build your team.
