Gifts in wills

Leave a gift
in your will

Create your living legacy today

We invite you to join our special community of supporters who have chosen to leave a gift in their Will to support our future conservation work.

Every gift, large or small, is appreciated and makes a difference to our capacity to stand up in defence of our beautiful natural world, forever.

Once you have provided for your loved ones, please consider including a gift in your Will to Bob Brown Foundation.

We are the community taking action for Earth. Let a gift in your Will be your living legacy.

How to leave a gift in your Will

Once you’ve considered the people and charities you’d like to remember, and who you’d like to appoint as your executor (the person who will look after your estate), we recommend engaging a solicitor or trustee to write your Will.

This is the best way to ensure that your intentions will be upheld and that your estate will be distributed correctly.

If you do not have a solicitor, the Law Society or Institute in your State or Territory can refer you to one in your area.

Alternatively, if your estate is relatively straight-forward, you may like to consider writing your Will online with our online will-writing partner, Safewill.

Please note, Bob Brown Foundation does not provide legal advice. Any referral to an Online Will provider does not constitute legal advice, or an endorsement that an Online Will is suitable for your needs.

Always seek independent legal advice when changing or updating your Will, including an online Will.

You can choose how you would like to leave your gift, including:

A residual gift. This is the simplest way to support our conservation work into the future. After providing for your loved ones and paying all debts, you can leave the remainder of your estate (or a percentage of the remainder) to Bob Brown Foundation. This type of gift has the advantage of guarding against the effects of inflation.

A cash gift. You can leave a specified dollar amount – but please remember that, over time, the real value of a cash bequest may reduce because of inflation.

Specific assets. You can leave property such as real estate, shares or anything of value. Bob Brown Foundation can also be the sole beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

Once you have decided on the type of gift you would like to make, ask your solicitor to draft the appropriate clause. The following wording may be taken as a guide:
I give [percentage of my residuary estate/dollar amount/ specified assets] to Bob Brown Foundation Incorporated ABN 51 634 785 002 for its general purposes, and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors.

A gift that supports Bob Brown Foundation’s general purposes gives us the most flexibility to respond to the greatest need at the time it comes into effect. However, it you would like to direct your gift to a specific purpose, please contact us first so that we can ensure that your wishes can be fulfilled, and that your gift will have the impact you intend.

We understand that making your Will is a very personal matter, and we will respect your confidentiality at all times. But if you’ve already included Bob Brown Foundation in your Will, or are considering doing so, please do let us know so that we can thank you properly.

This not only helps us plan for the future with more confidence, but also gives you the opportunity to discuss your wishes with us. We would be delighted to speak personally with you, if you wish, to tell you more about our work, and to talk through your gift ideas.
