WELCOME
Hello and welcome to my web site. I hope you will find things of interest in it.
The idea is that most of what I have written will be found here. Both published and unpublished texts. This page is an archive for professional texts. Personal ones can be found at

Click on my name to find out who I am and what I write about.
To find the texts, click on one of the themes listed under the language name. They are sorted according to three themes: anthropology and gender are the two research areas to which I have dedicated most of my life; the third theme is “a bit of everyting” and there you will find exactly that, a bit of everything.
The texts are sorted according to the language in which they are written. In other words, under each language, you will only find texts written in that language. To see what there is in the other two, you have to enter their lists.
In most cases I have added a few words about the contents of each text.
Under “a bit of everything” there are texts that have nothing to do with research. You will find links to texts by other people, as well, and also images, among other things paintings by my son Juaco López, who has helped me to design the site.
If you want to, you can write comments directly in the site. Please do.

Another way of expressing the purpose of this web site:
Some time ago I happened to read what an old author wrote to a friend. He explained that all his life he had striven for something different from what he had actually accomplished. He had envisioned a book that was really a book, carefully thought through and well structured, not just loose ideas but… something he could not define. He saw this as a temptation that he had rejected a thousand times, still it kept him in its hold. Perhaps I can still do it, he wrote, not complete the whole work, but at least “show a polished fragment and prove through finished parts that this book really exists and that I was aware of what I did not have the capacity to carry out.”
These words resonate inside me. Perhaps this web site is my way of showing my fragments in the hope that someone may see a whole, in spite of everything. And to indicate that I am aware of what I have not been able to carry out.
(The author was Stéphane Mallarmé, the letter was written to Paul Verlaine in 1869. I saw it quoted in Alberto Manguel´s book, “A History of Reading.” But in Swedish. The translation from Swedish here is mine.)
