Leon was always understanding and encouraging, constantly gave good feedback or advice for passages I was struggling on. Taught me some new methods for studying and help me build my study schedule. Also went above and beyond just academic work and was constantly supportive and encouraging when I was hitting walls. Checked on me throughout my whole process and gave advice and guidance for how to deal with things like stress and anxiety for the test.

Great Tutor Experience
My MCAT score increased from a 508 to a 519 due to Adina's great lessons and knowledge of MCAT material, and specifically my least favorite subject of chem/phys. I am so grateful for her help and guidance.

I bought the 9 month version of the self-paced course, but honestly only utilized it for 4 months (May-August). I received a 21 point increase in my score thanks to Blueprint! The content videos were very helpful and explained the concepts clearly and concisely. They made it very clear on what I was expected to know, and what would most likely not appear on the exam (they were right). I used the guided notes and took about 4 of the full lengths, which were harder than the AAMC exams. The study schedule was probably my favorite feature because it showed me what I had to study, and when I had to study it. I was able to organize my weeks and keep a checklist of all the topics I had covered. The QBanks and flashcards were also super helpful for applying what I learned. Anything I was unsure on, I could read the digital textbook to supplement my learning (thought I rarely did this because the videos worked best for me).

While I didn't have the chance to take full advantage of the blueprint modules, I did attend every class session. My teachers have been *incredible*. Half of the battle of the MCAT is gaining confidence and an internal locus of control. Not only did William and Kevin teach us the content extremely competently, they also gave me the strategies, confidence, and encouragement to rock my exam out of the park. Furthermore, even after my class ended, in the two months leading up to my test date, they have been consistently responding to my emails with my questions and FL scores with kindness and great advice. I am the first person in my family to try and embark on this journey. The MCAT has been this huge bogeyman and obstacle in my mind for almost three years now. Little did I know, I always had what I needed--I just needed their guidance and instruction to uncover it!

I was a retaker who was trying to improve a 512 to a 515. My tutor Matthew was really exceptional. He really helped me improve a lot of my understanding with chemistry and physics. Beyond that, it was just so nice to have the support of someone who had been through the process before. I really appreciated how he actively looked for ways to help me improve by looking through my full lengths and coming up with targeted reviews. It was also nice to just have him around to listen to me rant about my frustrations with the test. In the end, I got a 518 which I really couldn’t have gotten without his help!

Choosing the best MCAT prep course is vital to your success. Consider your own learning style, how long you have to prep, and your overall goals. The most important thing to look for when deciding on an MCAT prep course is how representative it is. The official AAMC practice exams are a cornerstone of any effective MCAT study plan, as simulating the real test environment is key to achieving your best performance. However, you will need to supplement your MCAT prep with other resources to get enough practice to reach your target score.
As the leader in representative MCAT prep, Blueprint MCAT (formerly Next Step) regularly updates our prep materials and interface to ensure our students do their best and use the most representative MCAT practice resources. Whether you need the complete flexibility of the Blueprint MCAT Self-Paced Course, the interaction and instruction of Blueprint Live and 515+ courses, or the one-on-one attention of a private MCAT tutor, Blueprint students see life-changing results. Ultimately, choosing the best MCAT prep course for you comes down to your personal learning style and preference, but we know you’ll find the right course with Blueprint MCAT.
When should I start studying for the MCAT?
The AAMC recommends students dedicate about 300 hours to MCAT test prep. However, if you're aiming for a top score, you may need to spend as much as 500 hours prepping. Typically, MCAT prep is spread out over 3-6 months. Once you have a test date in mind, evaluate your schedule to realistically gauge the time you can commit to your MCAT prep. Whether it’s on your own, with an online MCAT course, in a class, or with a personal tutor, make sure your MCAT test prep isn’t rushed.
How should I start studying for the MCAT?
If you’re here, you’re already taking the right first step! To get started on your MCAT prep, take a diagnostic practice test. This initial test will help you identify your baseline score, highlight what you already know, and set the stage for a more focused and effective study plan.
Then, create a free study schedule using our customizable online MCAT study planner. Your study plan will organize all your MCAT practice, including content review, practice tests, practice question sets, and reviews.
Remember, everyone’s study schedule will look different. What works best for one student may not work for another. Find what works best for you and stick to it. Consistency is key when it comes to successful MCAT test prep.
Are MCAT prep courses worth it?
It depends on your individual learning style and study habits. Some students benefit from the structure and guidance of a prep course, while others prefer to self-study using a blend of resources. However, research shows that a 15-point score increase can nearly quadruple your acceptance rate. This means investing in a quality MCAT prep course can ultimately pay off in a higher score and increased chances of acceptance into your dream medical school.
Remember that studying for the MCAT is not just about content review. It also requires learning strategies and test-taking techniques that can help maximize your performance on exam day. A good MCAT prep course will not only provide you with comprehensive content review, but also teach you how to approach MCAT questions and manage your time effectively.
When and where can I take the MCAT?
The MCAT is offered about 30 times per year between January and September, allowing you to select a test date and test center location that fits your schedule. Although the MCAT is taken on a computer, you must take it at a designated test center. MCAT exam scores are typically released approximately one month after the exam is taken.
What is the MCAT?
The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is a standardized exam that plays a crucial role in the admissions process for nearly every medical school in the U.S. and Canada. Administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the MCAT evaluates essential skills needed for success in medical school. These include problem-solving, critical thinking, and a solid understanding of natural, behavioral, and social science concepts and principles. Effective MCAT prep requires a balanced blend of thorough content review, practical application, and consistent practice. A strong MCAT score is a key component of your medical school application.
What is on the MCAT?
The MCAT is seven-and-a-half hours long, making it one of the most rigorous standardized tests out there. It consists of four sections:
Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems
Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems
Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior
Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills
Each section is designed to test different aspects of your knowledge and reasoning skills, ensuring you are well-prepared for the challenges of medical school.

*Blueprint Self-Paced Course students had an average increase of 15 points from their first Blueprint Exam to their best score on either a Blueprint Full Length Exam or self-reported score on an AAMC Practice Exam. The population of 596 students included all students who started their prep in 2022 and completed a minimum of 2,500 questions and 155 modules in the Self-Paced Course. Blueprint Live Course students had an average increase of 15 points from their first Blueprint Diagnostic Exam to their official AAMC MCAT score. The population of 54 students included all students who started their prep between January 7 and October 20, 2021, took the Blueprint Diagnostic first, attended at least 75% of live classes, answered a minimum of 1,500 questions, and provided their official score. To preserve the integrity of the study, one student was excluded for being an anomalous three-sigma outlier. The Live course score increase calculations were verified by the accounting firm of Weaver & Tidwell L.L.P.
