Recently, Meta’s Threads app burst onto the scene, unexpectedly challenging Elon Musk’s empire. However, if you’re not a fan of Threads and want to bid farewell, this guide will show you how to permanently delete your Threads account. Let’s dive right into the process.
Note: It’s important to note that you can’t delete your Threads account without also deleting your associated Instagram account. But if you no longer wish to use Threads, you can deactivate your account instead.
Steps to Permanently Delete Threads Account
Follow these steps to permanently delete your Threads account:
- Launch the Instagram app on your device and tap on the Profile icon in the bottom menu. On the top-right corner, you’ll find a menu icon with three horizontal lines.
- Tap on Settings and Privacy in the menu.
- In the Settings and Privacy menu, select Account Center.
- Within Account Center, tap on Personal Details.
- Scroll down to the Account ownership and control section. Here, you’ll find the option “Deactivate or delete your account.” Select your Threads account linked to your Instagram account.
- Click on Deactivation or Deletion and then tap Continue.
- Choose a reason for cancelling your account. Select the most appropriate reason and tap Continue.
- You’ll be prompted to enter your password. Input your password and click Continue.
- Finally, click Delete account to confirm your deletion request.
Please keep in mind that by following these steps, your Instagram account will also be deleted. In the future, Meta may introduce an option to delete Threads accounts separately without affecting Instagram. But for now, deleting your Threads account requires bidding adieu to Instagram as well.
