Zach Larson named Weber State football assistant coach

Larson will coach the Wildcat quarterbacks. He spent the last three seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Weber State.
OGDEN - New Weber State football head coach Mickey Mental has announced his first hire as the new coach of the Wildcats. Mental has named Zach Larson as an assistant coach for the Wildcats. Larson will coach the WSU quarterbacks.Â
Larson is no stranger to Weber State. He has spent the last three seasons as a graduate assistant coach, helping with the offense. He has been a part of a Big Sky Championship and two trips to the FCS Playoffs with the Wildcats, as well as multiple all-conference and All-American honors.Â
He began his career at Weber State in 2020 as a volunteer assistant coach with the offense. In 2021, he became an offensive graduate assistant coach where he served the last two seasons, working primarily with the Wildcat quarterbacks. While at WSU, Larson pursued a Master of Education degree.Â
He began his coaching career at Utah State in 2018 where he served as a student assistant coach. He worked under the offensive coordinator David Yost and wide receivers coach Jovon Bouknight. He was part of the Aggie team that was second in the country in scoring offense at 47.5 points per game.Â
A native of Orem, Utah, Larson graduated from Timpanogos High School. He played quarterback at Snow College in 2016 and was a walk-on at Utah State in 2017.Â
He is the son of Ed and Jeanne Larson and has two brothers and two sisters. His father Ed is a longtime coach, currently the head coach at Lehi High School, where he is the winningest coach in school history. He previously served as head coach at Timpanogos and Ogden High School and was an assistant coach at Weber State as well as Ricks College, New Mexico, BYU, and Dixie State. His older brother Chase played two seasons at Weber State from 2015-16.Â
